Wonderful hotel in a great location.

The hotel is marvelous, well situated close to bars, restaurants and only a block away from Powell's. The problem was housekeeping. You have to request house keeping the night before. We did that once, and all they did was bring clean towels. So we requested housekeeping again for the next night. All they did was make up the bed. No vacuuming, dusting, wiping down surfaces. We spoke to the manager, who was very glad we brought this to his attention. He comped us two nights and gave us a bottle of wine. We wanted to be able to refer people to the property because we really liked it. And now we will. A hint; if you rent a car or drive to the hotel, there are two choices for parking ($32 a night). That is either an open air lot across the street or a parking garage under the hotel. The lot under the hotel has very, very small spaces and is very cramped. Getting out of the lot requires a lot of maneuvering.

This has to be the nicest property we have stayed at in Portland to date. We have traveled to PDX for 5-6 months of total cumulative stays over the years, but had never tried this hotel. To say we were delighted and impressed is an understatement! The staff, first and foremost, are world class, friendly and attentive. They have a way of making you feel like the only person in the hotel, even if they are helping dozens of people each day! The room, wow. We stayed in the premier corner king room. It felt like a luxury apartment! The mattress has to be one of the most comfortable we have ever slept on. The spacious room also had floor to ceiling windows to take in Portland and a beautiful walk in shower. The historic brick building is so much nicer than staying in a modern hotel. You can't hear any of the other rooms or the outside world unless the windows are open. Location! You're steps to everything you want to see in Portland. We have stayed in neighborhoods before, and that's all fun and games until you want to travel. At this hotel, you're footsteps from transit and everything in PDX. My wife first saw this hotel online and said "that's the one! Book it!". I'm truly so glad that we did. I hope you make the same choice and level up your trip to Portland with this unique hotel experience.

Hotel is older but the room and areas have been renovated recently so it has a lot of charm and it is a lovely place to stay. We love staying at the Mark Spencer whenever we go to Portland. It is such a convenient location. The staff is always welcoming. The neighborhood is safe and is a great value. Beware that there is a price to park just like all the hotels in downtown Portland, but it is safe parking as well.

Great find!!

I came to Portland for an alternative medical procedure and this hotel is where I rested post treatment. 5 days, great room with a little kitchenette, comfy bed, black out curtains, walkable to anything needed, coffee in the lobby, nice desk attendants, all good. I highly recommend.

The first night we checked in, the front desk person was excellent! Knew where we could go to get a late dinner. The restaurant was charming with good food! The staff after that were distracted and forgetful about us requesting fresh towels.

It was a nice hotel. The staff was very friendly, and the place was clean. The room was nice and spacious. We stayed in the master suite with a kitchenette. It was in a great location within walking distance of the entire downtown district. However, the place was a little beat up. The bathroom door did not have a latch, and it kept sliding open. The vent in the bathroom had limited, if any, air flow, which made it more difficult because the door wouldn't stay closed because the latch was broken. The carpet was a little torn up at the transition to the tile in the kitchenette, and the couch was a sleeper and in fairly rough condition. All in all, I would stay at Mark Spensor again due to the location, Friendly staff, and the cleanliness of the hotel.

Portland trip May 2025

fun trip! Great location. getting around by mostly walking or taking Max. Max was very easy and affordable. we didn't rent a car for the 5 days we were in Portland. The Saturday University Farmers market was great! We ate really good food and Kens bakery was a favorite. Washington Park is a must, and of course we went to Cannon Beach with a relative. The tide pools were super fun. I liked walking in the different neighborhoods and seeing the houses etc. We felt safe.
