Weekend away.

Very disappointed when I was walk up by the housekeeper at 7am while I am try to get a bit more sleeep and enjoy my morning sleeping. And he though wasn’t enough knock on my door 7am he back again around 10:45am knock on my door. It would be nice if the hotel team explain to that gentleman check out is not until noon and more he disturb a costumer longer will take for the customer leave the room. I have left the hotel with a massive headache as did not have enough sleep.

Disappointing Stay – Not Worth the Price

We had a very disappointing experience during our recent stay. The hotel website showed rooms with bathtubs, which influenced our decision to book. However, at check-in, we were told only a shower room was available — no alternatives. When we followed up, staff said our room normally costs £30 more, but we were “lucky” not to be charged extra. This felt unfair since we didn’t even get the room we expected. The staff were dismissive and unhelpful. We were placed in a disabled-access room, which was not suitable for us. The sink was very low, the shower area was cramped, and the automatic door kept opening when our toddler accidentally pressed the button. The bed was made up of two singles pushed together, uneven and uncomfortable. On top of that, the room was not clean — the edges of the cabinet near the door were dusty. We also had to pay a £50 deposit at check-in without prior notice, which was frustrating. Overall, this stay did not meet the standards we expect from a Marriott hotel. Definitely not worth the price or reputation.

Have stayed many times at the Portsmouth Marriott and always found the staff very friendly, the rooms in excellent condition and the food outstanding ! However this time it was like a different hotel. I had booked the large suite on the 7th floor, on arrival found the bins in room still dirty and full, no hairdryer in room, only one bathrobe in the wardrobe and that had clearly been used and was marked and dirty. Housekeeping eventually came and replaced it but it took 3 phone calls but her attitude was clearly very embarrassed. Evening meal was was the worst ever waited for over 45 minutes it was disgusting, the truffle ravioli served cold and congealed but boiling in centre clearly microwaved when brought to attention of server was told that the ovens had been turned off for an hour due to needs of some special function but she could get it reheated we declined. No offer of a different choice or deduction from bill. The servers were clearly under immense pressure as though there was staff shortage. There was a "Prom" function going on and the music was defafening in the dining room where most couples just wanted a pleasant evening meal not counting the "prom" teenagers running in and out through the bar / dining area all the time. Later that even being still hungry then found out the room service app did not work ordered on phone via reception but the order never arrived. The buffet breakfast was however outstanding. Services level clearly dropped overall a very poor stay.

We stayed for 2 nights. The room was clean and comfortable. We had to request slippers as they were not provided by default when we arrived. The TV (Samsung smart) wasn't connected to the internet, nor could we connect our devices via HDMI cable or bluetooth, which was inconvenient. When we asked the staff at the reception, we were told that the TV is not smart and that they can't do anything about it. The staff also gave us directions to a nearby food place, which we appreciated. Finally, for breakfast - that we had paid for extra - we were told upon check-in that it lasts until 11 AM. On Monday morning we arrived a couple minutes after 10.30 AM and we were told that we were late and that on weekdays breakfast is until 10.30 AM. Despite the fact that we were only a couple minutes late, the staff did not seem to care. They told us we could grab some coffee and a couple pastries, even though there were plenty other stuff still in place. All in all, we enjoyed the room, but factoring in the details, it wasn't the best treatment that we expected and paid for.

The lounge, bar and room were great. For a business hotel it was surprising that the WiFi required £12-£16 per day for use, despite being a Marriott member. Apparently it should have been free but the option wasn’t available from room 711.
