This was a terrible experience. We arrived tired after driving over 2 hrs to get there. We have a 4-year-old and a 3-year-old. We paid for an ocean view, and the first room they assigned us was smelling terrible. It was very humid, and we complained because I was having trouble breathing due to my allergies. They then sent us to two other rooms, which were both in the same condition. The 3rd room also had electrical issues, and the lights kept turning off. At this point, I was willing to leave. We when back to the front desk and they finally decided to put us in an area with no humidity, (This was very upsetting because they know those rooms and due to my allergies they should have offer that from the get go, when we first complained about my breathing issues and not have us carrying our bags from room to room) after arriving in the room that finally had no humidity we realized that is was infested with mosquitoes. At this point, we were so tired, and my kids were done. My husband and I decided to try to kill as many as possible, and we counted 20 mosquitoes. Then we put the ceiling fan on high to try to keep them away. We paid for the 3 nights, and we left after the second night because that morning, after the second night, the light (electricity) went out, and we couldn't even take a shower. We no longer felt that it was safe for us to keep our kids in this place. All this, and I am not mentioning all the issues we had with the food. Book with caution 🚧

Staff was courteous and very accommodating. Service was nice. Room was cleaned nicely but the property itselfneeds an upgrade. Condensation in vents required me to use bath matt toprevent from slipping. TV or telephone in room did not work and the wifi coverage was poor. Food was ok. It lacked variety.

If you want to sleep in bed as hard as bricks then this is the resort for you. That mattress and pillows are horrible. We tossed and turned all night. Once we entered the room the wifi was dead. The water was luke warm in the shower. We froze because the air would not regulate when we tried to change the temps. If you like cats, theres plenty on the property especially the restaurants. They're walking around all under your table. Yep we will not come back and don't recommend

The Marien Puerto Plata is a beautiful complex. The staff was friendly, but at the restaurants it took a long time to get served a beverage. The food was good, and although there are a few restaurants to choose from the food selection is very limited. The furniture in rooms at the hotel are outdated. The doors of the closet of the room I stood were sliding doors that didn’t slide anymore, they were stuck and the mirror of the closet door was rusted. We were charged $3 per day to be able to use the in room safe… I’ve never had a resort charge for that. One thing I did absolutely love about the resort was the pool area. It was beautiful. (The bartenders at the pool bar have to be a little more upbeat.). The entertainment was also good.

Im giving the hotel a 2 as they closed all the restaurants and only offered food from the buffet to save money and options were awful. If the were planning on closing the restaurant they should of at least offer some options from each of the restaurants at the buffet. They moved buffet to pool area at night and we could even see the food on our plates. Poor management. I won’t be returning.

Overall the staff was nice, but the upkeep of the rooms was dated , I stayed there for a week and my bathrooms was leaking they repaired it and it started leaking the following day, they switched my room and that bathroom was also leaking water from the other bathroom above it. The food there was okay, if you didn’t like the restaurant you had the buffet restaurant to go to. Overall I would give this hotel a 4 star rating.
