Pros: the hotel is beautiful, most of the staff is great and some of them were even amazing, just 1 rude guy in the restaurant. It was a good deal money wise for the rating/location. It’s in mismaloya close to the zoo & El Eden. They have a doctor 24/7 in house (not sure if thats so good though, coincidentally he’s the one we had to go see for my son’s food poisoning). Cons: NOT family friendly. There’s mostly older people. The shallow bigger pool is an adults only pool & the smaller deeper pool with the bar in it, is the “family” pool. When we got there multiple guests told us they’d gotten sick, one of them said to stay away from the club sandwich, which we did, but my son ended up getting pretty sick with vomiting, nausea and diarrhea. There were blood stains on a corner of our sheets. Poor food options. You can’t swim out into the ocean because there’s a line of boats that you can’t swim past. Overall, go here if you’re an older person looking for a quiet place and are healthy enough to get through a bad case of food poisoning.

Property could use some maintenance items addressed, lots of burnt out light bulbs in halls, stairwells. Room patio door handle was loose and did not lock securely. Buffet was almost the same every day except for an item or two that was featured. Did not try the al a carts as I was a single diner and the dining rooms did not look that inviting, at least the buffet had a beautiful view. Overall I enjoyed a relaxing time. Staff were friendly and Oscar was wonderful in the buffet area.

They have a good buffet. The variety is there and the food is flavorful. The morning egg lady does good. There was a group of 12 that arrived and 9 got sick, they couldn't pin down what caused it. We ate about everything and were fine. The biggest weakness of this facility is the lack customer service the employees have toward guests. The buffet has all these young girls and none of them understand service. One will walk up to the table and ask if you want a refill on your juice then walk away and a few minutes later bring it. She won't ask anyone else if they wanted a refill, just stuff like that, I suspect they are all beginners. After the food incident, the service got better too, odd. The front desk almost had us signed in to someone else's rooms, the last names were mixed up. The Restaurant reservations lady is downright rude. No idea why the buffet is closed from 11:30 to 1:00pm, the time when most canadians and americans want lunch. The Steak restaurant was fatty meat. The Capri Italian was very good. The pool activities were plentiful. They play Bingo everyday we had no idea what some numbers were that he called. Pool service was good. You can tell the managers by their dress attire, almost all of them walk around with no expression on their face, not smiling and and never asking guests how everything is... The view is refreshing to look out from the resort and see the mountains rather than other hotels like downtown. Would I stay here again, No.

We come here every year because we love this resort and Mismaloya. Staff is excellent as always, and we see many of the same friendly faces every year. The building is starting to show more wear and tear than usual. It might be due to the fact that it was previously used to film a popular TV show and maybe now that show’s over, so the building upkeep budget has diminished. We were put into the wrong room type when we checked in, but the staff found a solution the next day that left us very happy. One place this resort could really improve is its food options. We found ourselves leaving the resort to eat elsewhere more than usual this year. There are 4 restaurants and 1main buffet. We feel that only 1 of the restaurants is worth going back to (Don Quixote) when we visit. The buffet has a weekly rotation of themes for dinner each night (Mexican, Spanish, Oriental, International, Italian, Seafood, and Prime Rib.) Breakfasts are great and more focused on Mexican dishes with some American and European dishes thrown in. Lunches can be quite a hodge podge of different things. Whenever the buffet serves Mexican dishes, they are EXCELLENT. But they don’t do that enough, especially for dinners. One of the reasons we come to Mexico is to eat great Mexican food. The night the buffet does it’s Mexican theme is always the best meal of our entire week. I wish they did away with the Oriental & Italian buffet nights, which aren’t great, and feature their amazing local cuisine more often.

The only slight issues i had was the constant "disco-disco" music from the pool area (but it's just not my music) and the restaurants being fully booked by 1 pm every day. Otherwise every staff I met was excellent. the housekeeping was very good but the maintenance was lacking (but mostly cosmetic). The food at the buffet, snack bar, Italian and Spanish restaurants was enjoyable. The absolute hilights were the service by the concierge and the excursions with Vallarta AQdventures (highly recommend). The resort stage shows are well worth your time to see. Having multiple pool areas available was excellent. the beach was small with very well maintained and monitored. The public transit bus stops on the road just outside the gates and runs every 15 minutes (10 mx peso) and drops you off in the zona romantic. i felt safe for my trips into PV and back during the day and evening.

Well the hotel itself is visually pleasing,it's not hard to see that it's not very clean the dining table 😕 n our room had dried spills upon arrival that were never washed off the entire 7 days. The roof overhang beneath or rooms balcony had dried vomit and while eating at the buffet saw a very happy cockroach skitter by ( picture for proof) would not go back. Both my husband and I spent just over a day each vomiting and with diarrhea, while I can't explicitly blame that on the hotel I can say I don't drink and it did feel like food poisoning.

Location nice and remote away from the city, noise and commotion. Awesome view, food is average for an all inclusive, most of the stuff goes above and beyond. The elevator on our floor didn't work, a bit outdated needs some improvements on the rooms. Not much to do besides the pool area, not much options after dark. Entertainment needs some work. But is you are looking for peace and quiet this is the place.

The trip was supposed to be a 7 day relaxation and reconnection. The third day I got stomach/ gastro virus and remained ill. We found out that many individuals were experiencing the same severe virus. The day we departed hand sanitizer was required for all meals in the buffet. The air quality at the resort was terrible. The smoke was visable from all areas surrounding the resort. In the late afternoon, chemical smelling burning would take place and drive us off the balcony or away from the pools and back into the room. Having only eaten twice in 7 days, I cannot evaluate the meals and food options. Pools were great. Beach is lovely. I won't go back.

Multiple people got sick, stomach problems. Might have been food. Had to go to the Dr. At resort. $150. Just to be seen. Ended up paying $250 for an injection for nausea and stomach pain..I felt the resort should have covered it,when multiple people were sick at same time. The sort just handled the whole situation wrong.

Beautiful grounds and area. Nice room and thank goodness as 3 of the 6 of us sick with food poison from resort so spent most of vacay in room. Many extra costs including $400US dr bill for 2 sick kids and eating off resort to keep healthy. Filing a complaint. Been going to Mexico every year for over 20 years. Never been this sick…diarrhea maybe but this was terrible vomiting and not Nora virus. Filing a complaint with Barcelo. Even locals had heard that they don’t take proper food processing methods. Don’t stay here unless you want to eat off property.

Our family had such an amazing time!! The staff and facilities were amazing and the nightly entertainment was enjoyed by all!! The selection of restaurants and food were delicious and plenty!! We would definitely visit this and any other Barcelo resort again!!

The location of the property is beautiful although far from town. The amenities offered are lacking. The pool was nice and our room had nice cold AC although the room had many area that are getting run down such has drawer handles hanging, blackout curtains hard to close, make up mirror fall off wall and the shower knob would fall off each time it was used. The staff was friendly. The food was absolutely horrible and if a reservation was not made a one of the “dining” options everything else closed so there was nothing to choose from. Room service is an extra fee and not included in “all inclusive “ just FYI. The drinks always tasted watered down.I was at this resort 14 years ago and at that time was fantastic but no upgrades have been made. Puerto Vallarta is beautiful but would not stay at this resort again.

Beautiful location. Nice large rooms. Food options are decent enough, we mostly just ate at the buffet which changed its theme daily. The shows were okay, but what sold us the most was how quiet and relaxing it was. More of a family resort so if you’re looking for partying this isn’t it. But if you want a quiet chill resort, this is a good option. An hour outside of the main city, so keep that in mind if you have things you want to do in Puerto Vallarta.
