It's fairly clean, comfortable an good value for money. One of the lifts is out of order and has been for a while so it does take ages to get to the top floors.
The bathrooms always smell of urine as well.
Value for money prompted this stay. Good location, convenient to London without the capitals prices, efficient check in, helpful welcoming staff. Room was perfect for overnight stay
Quick check-in with a friendly welcome. Had to wait for the lift as one was out of order. First room had issues with the TV which we raised with reception and was told someone would come up to look at it. After around an hour, we went back down as it was getting close to the time the maintenance team were finishing and they decided to move us to another room on a higher floor. Room was quiet and bed was comfortable.
Excellent location for sight seeing, shopping and dinning out and acess to bus, rail and airport links. City can be explored easily on foot from the hotel.
Hotel is reasonably priced and staff are very helpful
On checking in wasn't told at reception only one lift working plus guest where having problems with only lift working. I & others had problems using lift Friday/Saturday with lift stopping at correct floor when raised with staff they seemed to think we where having problems using swipe cards even when it was pointed out we couldn't get into lift to use cards. Think staff took a gamble that lift would hold out all weekend so wouldn't need to call out a engineer over the Bank Holiday weekend.
I stayed for 4 nights and from the 1st day I had to go down to the reception to get my room keycard reloaded as it stopped working. I was told at reception that it was probably due to me having my keycard too close to my mobile phone! I told her that my mobile was in my front left pocket and my keycard in my back right pocket so it couldn’t be that. So basically the receptionist was blaming me for the keycard not working. This then happened again on every day of my stay. Each time the receptionists came out with the same reason! This tells me that this excuse is scripted and that they frequently have guests who need their keycards reloaded. Here’s an idea - get a better keycard that actually works!!
My 2nd complaint is about the lifts. When I arrived only one lift was working! There was a queue for the lift and when the lift arrived it was full of the cleaning staff with their bedding trollies! It took about 10–15 mins to actually get from reception to my room! Again during the next 4 days it was a nightmare waiting for a lift that wasn’t full of cleaning staff or guests trying to get back down to reception or breakfast. When I asked one of the staff how long the broken lift had been out of order I was told just over 2 weeks! So Ibis don’t really care about the guests or are totally oblivious to good customer care! If they were then the broken lift would be a very high priority!
Simple, cheap and clean in a great central location. Staff were lovely.
Bed wasn't the comfiest, one of the lifts was out of service making the wait quite long. The shower bracket was broken, but it worked as long as you crouched.
Overall the Reading Ibis was very well maintained though only one lift was in service - which in a 14 floor dwelling made for a slight inconvenience.
That said, I was there on Sunday evening of a bank Holiday weekend, which could explain the lack of swift repair.
This one issue is the only reason there was not a 5 star review for the 'Facilities'
Very good value for the cost. I thought the breakfast very good with lots of choice available. I also like that they can stamp your car parking ticket to reduce £16 for 24 hrs parking to £7.
If I had one niggle, it would be that the sound travels between rooms but it didn't affect our sleep.
