Excellent hotel. Room was great, loved the bath. Very relaxing. Loved the Viking theme was great to come back to after a day out. We used local public transport and it was easy to navigate from the hotel. Restaurant has a great Viking atomosphere and food was lovely. Fabulous breakfast, good selection would definitely recommend. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

It’s outside of Reykjavík but still easy enough to get around. There’s a bus to your right that goes there is under 30 minutes. A grocery store is a brisk 10 minute way to your left. You can also book easy transport from the international airport that can take you to and from.

Good location. A little closer to the airport than downtown Reykjavik. Rustic hotel. Good, simple breakfast.

Hotel Viking brings you back in time to a rustic time with its unique design and historic appearance. This was one of the first places built in this area before the beautiful town developed. It appears to be an upper scaled area. The rating of 4 stars is due to the mattresses not being as comfortable as I like.

The hotel was great, wonderfully decorated and the staff were lovely. Our only complaint was that our room was very small, it was difficult for two people and their suitcases to maneuver around.

We stayed here on the last night of our trip and regretted it. Had it been for more than one night we would have found a different place to stay. Rooms were not as pictured. Yes, we picked the “small room” but there genuinely wasn’t more than 2 feet to walk beside the bed. The bathroom was so small you were practically showering while sitting on the toilet. Walls were so thin I was kept up by our neighbour snoring in the next room. The place was old, smelt of sulfur and the disinfectant chemicals they use. It was nice to be by the water, but nothing in this area stays open later than 8pm and English is much more difficult to come by than in the rest of the country. Our most expensive stay of the trip and by far our least satisfactory.

Triple Room
We had a triple room and it was pretty spacious. As others have said, this is not a luxury hotel, but it was comfortable with a decent breakfast buffet. Also in a cute little town with several food options.

Loved staying here. Enjoyed the viking theme throughout the hotel and restaurant. The location was super convenient and out of the city in such a cute town by the water. Reasonably priced, clean, and wonderful customer service. Breakfast was included, and there were plenty of options. Everything tasted delcious. I was able to view the Northern Lights across the street over the harbor. Karolina, who worked overnight at the front desk, was very helpful and kind. I would absolutely stay here again. The only complaint I have was the lack of power outlets in our room.

Look, this isn’t a luxury property, and if that’s what you’re expecting, you may be disappointed. But if you’re open-minded and looking for a good value for a night or two, it’s worth considering. Overall, we enjoyed the experience. Here are some pros and a few cons. The Good: The staff is very friendly, the location is convenient for both the airport and getting outside Reykjavik, and the kitschy design is fun. The Cons: The bed… we were upgraded to the Viking Village, which we appreciated, but the beds were almost unsleepable for us. They are very firm—I’ve seen firm beds around the world, but this was on another level. Also, the cabin is more “glamping” than hotel, which was fine for us for two nights but might not be ideal for everyone. Finally, the breakfast was just not for us. Compared to other hotels in Scandinavia, it felt lacking and a bit dated. Overall, we felt we got great value, and if we needed a short stay, we’d consider it again.
