I love the homely feeling the rooms have. Every thing is spacious and roomy. This was my second time staying at The Commonwealth, because I l was so impressed the first time.

We reserved a suite and expected more from a 4-star hotel. Two small windows and a pretty awkward room. We saw the room across the hall and it was much nicer, and probably the same rate. Unfortunate. Other than that, the service and people are nice. The location was good as well.

What happened to taking pride in hoteling

Hotel had no customer service what so ever. No one greeted you when you entered. No security or controls on who gets in the elevators that provide access to the floors and rooms. Bathroom only had three towels when I booked for 4 people. Bathroom sink drain was backed up, bathroom overall was not pleasant. Shower fixtures shook around when you turned on and off. And worst of it was the noisy air conditioning in the room that kept me up for two nights and ultimately caused me to check out early and find another hotel for one night. When I checked out I mentioned the issue to the front desk attendant and he said I wish I would have mentioned. It’s not my job to mention the obvious, the management should be doing full room sweeps when booked and before a customer comes in to stay. Hoteling 101. And the $37 valet charge is exorbitant. The other hotels in the area charge $25 and the one I ultimately stayed at was complimentary.

It is a very beautiful hotel, and the rooms have all been modernized. I loved the decor and that each room has a "name." It felt very regal to stay there. The staff was super helpful and friendly, especially the valet service. There are a lot of sightseeing things to do nearby and restaurants as well. This section of town is somewhat hilly, and the sidewalks are a bit torn up, so be prepared with a cane or walking stick if you have difficulties walking. Also, ride share and taxis nearby to take you to other parts of town if you don't have a car with you.
