It is a dream. Waking up to volcano views and spending days hot springs hopping is truly magical. All of the staff go above and beyond as well.

Believe all the reviews that say DON’T BOTHER with RIU Guanacaste! All the restaurants are buffets except the steak house. Worst shoe-leather steak we’ve ever eaten, you have to make reservations a few days in advance—for a production line steak—no individual service. Anywhere. The buffets repeated the same food within the same restaurant and across the other restaurants. The best food we had all week was on an excursion—away from RIU. The RIU staff members have ZERO training—when you ask a question, all they say is to look the answer up in the RIU app—nobody knows how to answer a question face-to-face—and typically a snide look if you don’t want to download yet *another* app. The room was comfy, but there were no face cloths so we went to the gym to get hand towels to use as face cloths—which we had to go get every day. They did not stock our water or coffee regularly. We had to call to get service. You can't drink the water out of the tap. If you aren't fluent in Spanish, the resort will be tough to get around in. Goods and services were wildly overpriced. We suggest using the beach vendors for souvenirs and we got a great massage on the beach for less than half what the resort charged. The violin and guitar entertainers in the Tamarindo bar were good, but the overall evening entertainment was uninteresting and although the performers were moderately talented and worked hard, other resorts’ entertainment was worlds above RIU’s. Simply said...don't go!

About an hour from San Jose and STRONGLY recommend at least 1 or 2 nights coming to or from. This is an extraordinary experience. The casitas are over the top, but the 5 waterfalls hike, the Aviary, Frog experience, Big Cats and Butterfly house will blow your mind. It is all rescued animals given the best experience that could be created. I will find a way to visit there EVERY time I go to Costa Rica.

An unforgettable stay with an incredible sunset view. From the moment we arrived, everything about our stay was exceptional. Our room was extraordinary — beautifully designed, comfortable, and with a stunning view that made it feel truly special. Having our own private pool was an amazing touch and made the stay even more relaxing. The common pool area was another highlight, especially around sunset. The views were absolutely breathtaking, and watching the sun go down over the ocean from the hotel was one of the most memorable parts of our trip. What really stood out, though, was the customer service. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely made us feel welcome throughout our stay. Every little detail seemed thoughtfully taken care of. Between the spectacular location, incredible views, beautiful room, private pool, and outstanding hospitality, this was easily one of the most memorable hotel stays we’ve had.
