I spent 4 days in this beautiful charming house, and felt home the moment I passed the gate. The house located in the beautiful authentic neighborhood of Santa Teresa is decorated with taste displaying very cozy and clean rooms. A delicious breakfast is served under the trees with a very nice view on the city and I had the chance to see the little monkeys populating Rio while having my morning coffee. The host Matthieu is incredibly welcoming and helpful. I came last minute without organizing anything and Matthieu took time to recommend many activities and made me feel I was part of his community. I had an incredible experience and strongly recommend a stay in Casa Da Santa !
Two days before our stay we get an email where the hotelier offers to send a car to the airport for R$160.00. We said okay and responded immediately to his email. No return response. We wait at the airport for an hour. No car. So We take a taxi for R$60.00 a hundred rias cheaper than his offer of a car. Then we get to his B&B and it is chain locked ad shuttered. We tried to call the number on the reservation but it was listed wrong. We had to knock on doors to find a neighbor who knew his number. When we finally did contact him he was stuck in traffic. His suggestion was to tote our luggage up a steep hill in the 95 degree heat and wait for him in the square. (approx 40 minutes) We enlisted the taxi driver who found us a wonderful b&B called Casa Belize. If you rent this place make sure all your ducks are in a row.
Stayed here during carnival week. Iberia had lost our luggage somewhere between Malaga and Rio airport.
Matthien went that extra mile during our stay, spending hours over the three days trying to locate our luggage. With his help we managed to retrieve the case just in time to catch our cruise ship.
Matt was also very knowlegeable about places to visit in the area providing us with maps and suggestions.
This is a very small, charming and unique hotel in an old house in a nice neighborhood that feels more like a community than a tourist destination. The owner is very knowledgeable and helpful and hooked us up with an English-speaking driver to show us around in the limited time window we had for touring. We enjoyed walking around the neighborhood and felt safe. Breakfast on the veranda was lovely. The one drawback was that we had to pay in advance by wire transfer which was inconvenient and costly. But we were well cared for and had an experience that felt more authentic than staying in a big hotel by the beach.
Amazing accommodation, amazing host- Matt couldn't have been more helpful, beautiful location and fantastic rooms. The house has been renovated as is really lovely, especially loved the jacuzzi! Thanks so much for a great time!
