The staff were very friendly and attentive.
The hotel was very comfortable with large clean rooms.
We were in a dog friendly room as were a lot of the guests.
The hotel is handy for walking around Rothesay Main Street.
An interesting hotel in a great location.
Very grand and historic, nice staff and lovely breakfast.
It is a bit tired and when we visited was very cold.
The Glenburn Hotel has outstanding views from the hotel restaurant / lobby area, so I enjoyed it as much as I could since my room looked on to the roof, blocking the view. A little misguided from the outstanding photos on Expedia. The staff were very accommodating and welcoming and I really enjoyed my walks in the lovely area of Rothesay. This coastal town allows you to feel disconnected, without having to be too far from the mainland. I would definitely suggest taking a taxi from the ferry if you have any mobility issues or large pieces of luggage. The hotel is on top of a hill, so could be a challenging climb
To describe the Glenburn as tired is a little understatement - it's comatose. Such a shame as it's in a magnificent position with amazing views and in it's hey day was THE place to stay. This hotel needs money spent on it. Fingers crossed someone will see the potential and renovate. We didn't eat in the hotel apart from breakfast which was generous if a little uninspiring. Feels like a budget coach tour hotel - though we paid over £100 for a double room for the night! I like old buildings and quirky hotels - but they need to get the basics better. Needs to be cleaner and fresher throughout.
It was suiable for my purposes. My job ladted longer than expected and i had to stay another night on the island. The hotel had rooms at shorf notice. A bit dated looking but it was clean and comfortable.
Its a great place and some staff are wonderful but for the second time I was accused wrongly of owing them money on departure (it was paid in advance) by a very agressive and extremely rude and uncooperative mature woman, causing offence and embarrassment in front of other guests.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, room comfort
Great location and pleasant
The Glenburn has seen better days. The decor is a bit tired and in need of refurb as as the bathrooms. But. it's clean, tidy, food was good, staff were terrific. So as budget stays go, it's hard to beat. The building itself looks like a 5 star hotel in images but that's not the case internally anymore. Wouldn't take much to transform the place, but i guess the investment vs return just isn't there anymore - which is a shame.
Nostalgic Trip to the Isle of Bute - November 2024
My sister and I had a really lovely stay at the Glenburn Hotel over the weekend and it was fabulous to see it open again after the new owners re-opened it earlier this year.
A truly iconic hotel with lots of character, stunning views over the harbour, lots of history, and much to offer.
We will be returning to the hotel again in 2025 when further refurbishment works during Dec to February 2025 are finished.
All the hotel staff were welcoming and friendly. Special thanks to Michael, Niall and Debbie in the main reception and also to Thomas who looked after us during our stay which was acknowledged and appreciated.
Good luck with ongoing renovations which will be appreciated by a future guests staying at the hotel.
