Fabulous hotel with an excellent staff! Our room looked out onto the beach and was picture perfect! Comfortable bed, AC, fridge. Really excellent! Wish there were better restaurants in town. Try to reserve one of the four parking spots owned by the hotel.
Lovely hotel in front of the beach, very nice staff and on site parking. We stayed only one night so we chose the cheapest room which was quite small but clean.

Great views of the sea but hotel is now looking dated. Room very good with excellent shower. Be warned the underground parking is very tight especially if you are not on the first floor. Would stay again if I was v traveling through royal. Excellent restaurant recommendation from receptionist , opposite casino 2 minutes away from hotel.

really enjoyed the break but feel the hotel is a little dated ,
Great location and fabulous time...😀
The hotel was probably once very nice, but it is very tired with dirty, threadbare carpets and wallpaper peeling off the walls in the corridors.

Disappointed
Good location but dated Hotel. Remember 3* and it was.
Best to stay in sea view rooms. We could not get one as all booked. Supposedly had a city view which was anything but. We looked out on to a blank wall. Room dark so fortunately did not need to spend much time in it. Bed very comfortable. Shower in bath not great. Breakfast ok.
Staff not very friendly, bathroom clean but needs a complete overhaul, common areas old fashioned dirty carpets walls in room need painting, very disappointing.

Grand Hotel de la Plage in Royan 3stars ok
***stars hotel basic but well located, lovely staff, very clean, comfortable bed. Would be amazing refurbished in a nice deco way as a bit 70’s tired. Great potential!
I loved this hotel. My room was big and airy and overlooked the beach, the staff were lovely, the breakfast was great, and it's near everything, including bus stops, if you want to go further afield. It's probably not for you if you get exercised by noise - it's on a (relatively) busy road, near the casino and the rooms aren't particularly soundproof - or by slightly shabby carpets (some reviewers are really hung up on shabby carpets, I've noticed!). It's a hotel with a bit of character and that suits me. I would definitely recommend it.

Hotel is in a good position but needs updating to let it stand out. Very good choice for breakfast. Shower needs modernising to get rid of curtain and possible flooded bathroom.
Overall the hotel appears "tired" - faded carpets and the air of better in bygone days.
Arrived at 2pm only to find there was no running water in the whole hotel which did not get reconnected until after 6pm - despite alerting reception no apologies were offered by management other than the Gallic shrug - I add that this despite several complaints by myself and my wife and we both speak fluent French. Finally when the water supply was restored there was no hot water that night, the following morning and the following evening. Once again the staff did not seem concerned - maybe they thought it odd that their guests might like to shower!!
Breakfasts and the sea view were the only good things about the place.
I enjoyed my short stay there and will definitely be back.

A night at the seaside
The room was very clean but the bathroom dated. The fan supplied in the room did not work on an exceptionally hot night.my mother in laws room had lights in bathroom not working so my feeling is a lack of housekeeping services. Very clean room and bed comfortable. Even though situation was excellent right on the sea would not have chosen had the photos been accurate and of side facing rooms.not worth the 100€ price tag

Near the beach, the hotel was clean but dated.
Just needed a bed for the night as I did not want to drive home after visiting the casino for the evening
We loved our stay here and extended it for a night because it was so nice. Right on the bay and next to a great boulangerie. Special views across the bay with the beach right in front of the hotel. We enjoyed a relaxed drink or two on the terrace at the front of the hotel, watching the activities on the beach, the sun setting and the coloured lights from the casino reflected on the ocean waves. Lovely buffet breakfast. Great restaurants very close by and a walkway all around the headland to see the fishing huts and locals out with their nets. We also watched the old men playing boules next to the Casino.

Nice hotel close to the beach
The facilities were generally good, however, the television would not work (couldn't change channels) and switched itself on on the middle of the night- very annoying. It was only possible to open one side of the double doors onto the balcony, the blind would not close fully, and the curtains could not easily be closed. The hotel does not offer any parking, which is an issue during holiday periods (other hotels in the area do offer parking) when the on street parking is at a premium.
The only section this Hotel fell a bit short was on the condition. However, it is currently in the process of being decorated. We will definitely stay here again.
