The old mansion it self was beautiful inside but the outside left something to be desired. Check in hostess was friendly, but we got left in the waiting area for a little bit while there was a wedding testing happening and other guests coming and going so it was a bit awkward. The grounds were charming with an old elegant feel but the room was very bare. The saving grace was the bathroom which had beautiful tile and a wonderful soaking tub. However, the room felt dingy, was dusty, and the towels seemed liked they need to be replaced. The fireplace was a nice touch however it had fake logs with lights in them which was cute for ambiance but the extension cord going to it just felt unsafe and didn’t look professional. Was it the worst place to stay? No, but I don’t know that I would particularly stay again. I don’t hardly ever write reviews but felt this was necessary; I got this room at a lower rate due to timing so for what I paid, I am not upset but if I would have paid what they normally charge, it would have been a bigger problem.
The hotel or bed and breakfast is very nice. In a nice neighborhood. The grounds are beautiful. Staff was very nice and welcoming. The building just needs a little TLC. Water stain and hole in our ceiling. Shower door needs re-painting. I really don’t like to negatively comment as it is historical, but it needs a little work. Continental breakfast was nice and coffee was GOOD!

I love the old mansion, but old houses need extra care. Vizcaya appears in a state of decline with some high ticket deferred maintainence issues. There is obvious roof rot and there was an active leak in the wall in the room i stayed in.
The rooms and bathrooms are also in need of maintainence with cracked tiles, cracked toilet porcelain and dirty carpets. The bed, while slightly saggy, was comfortable and the linens appeared clean. The pillows were also comfortable. The room temperature was easily adjustable and comfortable.
Overall, not terrible, but I likely won't stay again. The staff were very accommodating and there was great communication.
I hope the building gets some care, and i would love to stay again after 'she' grts a refresh.
So disappointed to see a place I had such high hopes for was such a dump. Horrible bed, ZERO draining in the shower, and there was water damage in our room.

This is a rustic type of hotel, so beware, there is no elevator. We walked and drove around for a good 10 minutes until we found someone working there. There is no check-in desk. The room was comfy but being right on the street it was noisy, especially because it was raining. The workers were very nice, they were just sparse.
B&B lackluster, waited an hour for innkeeper to show up and check us in, innkeeper opened the wrong door and someone was already in there and the innkeeper didn't even say sorry just walked away and got keys to the room next to that one. (According to Google reviews this has happened before).
I enjoyed my stay the only downside is the stairs. There's no elevator. That's the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars. The staff was friendly and performed excellent service. I came in rainy weather would love to come again when it's ☀️
I found long hair on the sink and on the toilet. Sheets had a tear. When booking there was no mention that the actual stay would be in the Briggs House. I kept thinking it was in the original Vizcaya itself as there were no instructions sent of where to present myself. Also, any guests should be aware the residence is not a short walkable distance from the city center.
Nice one night stay at the main Vizcaya building. The first floor is the breakfast hall and wedding conference room. The second floor has 4 standard guest rooms plus penthouse. The room is little rundown but clean and functional, which is expected from a hundred years old mansion. The location is close to the midtown and easy to access shopping, muesums, restaurants and other entertainments right in downtown Sacramento. We were able to self-tour the wedding venues inside Vizcaya. Staff is very friendly and breakfast is nice. Parking is limited but you can park on the street as well.
