Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
I chose this hotel for an overnight stop on our way home from a holiday in Italy. I liked the peace and quiet of the rural setting. I also liked the old-fashioned feel of the hotel (it still used lock & key to open the room door)
The rooms were clean, the bathroom spacious and my husband & I preferred that the toilet was separate. It was convenient that the restaurant could provide an evening meal, as well as breakfast, as we were tired from a long day on the road. The food and wine were delicious and reasonably priced
I did need my rusty French, as none of the staff spoke much/any English, but we managed to communicate and they were all helpful
The hotel is very well situated for accessing the small town. Providing they are open, there are restaurants within walking distance across the river. Our room was very well laid out, providing bathroom and separate toilet.
Breakfast was served in a room where other activities were taking place. Everything was very friendly and well served.
had booked a quadruple room - was initially disappointed by how very small it was (though impressed by a sofa which became a bunk bed). But as we were only staying a night and arrived quite late it was fine ,and the beds for all were comfortable, with good black out. Excellent breakfast and accommodating staff make up for any shortfalls with the room which did not ultimately matter - all we needed was to sleep
Budget hotel but will need a car to get to. Checkin easy as manager spoke small amount of English to understand us. Checkout the lady had no understanding of English but managed with many hand gestures. Bathroom a decent size to move around in. Bedroom medium amount of room. Ask the manager to turn on air con for you in afternoon as he doesn't automatically do it. Room basic. Two minute walk to Lidl which is just behind hotel. Ten minute walk into small village, a few cafe about and laundrymat. Two nights spent there but sightseeing around the battlefields and lovely villages. Can park car right at front. Village area safe and quiet. Wifi a bit hit and miss.

Cozy
Small charming place. But on hot days the small rooms are also very very hot, had a though nights sleep after the fan stopped working. But besides that, very nice staff and good location if you want to visit the more rural France.

Closed on a Sunday
We had been warned beforehand that all the restaurants were closed on a Sunday so we ate before going there. We did find bars open in the town centre and were thus able to have a drink. The town was nice with interesting architecture. However, we would not choose to stay at this hotel again on a Sunday!

Nice hotel close to amenities and the river
I am Canadian with litte french skills and got along just fine, staff understood a little english. I used this place as a base for touring WW1 sites in the area and there is lots to see.
First things first, prepare your French, you are going to need it. A lot of people I met around here did not speak English. Which living in Germany has gotten me used to Germans, this was like starting over again at day 1. So bring a phrase book which helped me a lot. Otherwise the hotel is great, well maintained and pretty standard for a small town. There are lots of WWI sites nearby which is why I stayed here. If you want a cheaper option than staying in Verdun, St Mihiel is only 40 min away. It is actually closer to the American cemetery and monument that are only 15 minutes away. The restaurant is next to the hotel and was really good. They also don't speak English but will help you out with your French.
