We weren't only amazed by the remarkable attention to style and detail used to recreate beautiful El Convent. We were overwhelmed with how well the hotels staff and designed have created an intimate hotel that we didn't even want to leave the hotel for the first day.

Special hotel with mostly positives but two cons

El Convento is in a great location and is a fabulous historical building. The staff are friendly, and the manager's wine-cheese happy hour is appreciated. I also liked the plunge pool and hot tub on the roof. I had two problems during my stay that are worrying with such an exclusive property. One, I arrived by myself in a rental car, and it was my first visit to old San Juan. I could not find a place to leave my car while checking in, so I double parked. When I asked about parking, the staff gave me a list of parking lots and said, "Use your GPS. Good luck." GPS for a solo, first-time visitor was not successful, with narrow streets, closed streets, and insufficient street signs. I went in circles for 1/2 hour. The staff could improve this by offering both (1) a short-term parking spot on Calle d. Cristo and (2) valet parking services for guests who are unfamiliar with the streets around the hotel. Two, I ordered tuna tartare from the hotel's restaurant, and it was inedible, consisting of little bits of tuna in an old runny avocado mayo sauce, with chips. This dish should be either improved or removed. I washed the bad taste away with a Medalla light, which was cold and refreshing. So that was a way to make things all right in the end. It's a great beer. I would stay again at El Convento, overall, now that I am wiser about parking and eating.

Absolutely Stunning Hotel! So much charm, detail and ambience, it was a delightful stay. Perfectly situated in the heart of Old San Juan across from the Church and within easy walking distance of points of interest. The premises was clean and calm. The room was a mix of modern and beautiful culture. The bed was heavenly! I would highly recommend this hotel and can't wait to stay here again.

What a lovely hotel! The location was excellent - right in the heart of Viejo San Juan. The service was stellar. The room was beautiful and very quiet - even though we were on the ground floor next to many events. And the free coffee, water, and wine and cheese were wonderful benefits. Also they have coin op laundry on site which was a huge plus in the humidity!

The lobby and entrance are beautiful areas and give a historical resort vibe. The staff at the reception desk were friendly and provided good service. The event space looks gorgeous, as we witnessed 2 weddings during our stay. There is a "balcony space" visible from the guest rooms, where one could see a pile of junk, which was an eyesore. Also, the view from our room was not a pretty sight, with what looked like some unkept or abandoned homes. The restaurant needs improvement in the food and freshness of the ingredients. The area is convenient to restaurants and shopping, and attractions of Old San Juan. The area was also safe.
