I would recommend this to ANYONE going to San Juan. First of all, location. In Old San Juan, right next to the Cathedral and a block from La Fortaleza, EVERYTHING is within walking distance. Second, it is BEAUTIFUL. The yellow color, the archways, the atrium and open-air restaurant, gorgeous foliage all around. The rooms are lovely too with high ceilings and spacious bathrooms. Third, the rooftop pool and bar is unique and so relaxing. Fourth, sister privileges at the Marriott in Isla Verde, so a quick uber gets you a private beach with free umbrella and chairs - terrific. Finally, free drinks...need I say more? Rose reception everyday from 5 to 5:30, and a free glass of champagne for each guest everyday too! I mean, what?! Right?! The staff was very nice and extremely helpful. We would take this hotel/location any day over the bigger resorts outside of Old San Juan. It made for a perfect vacation, would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Beautiful building. Great service! Front desk staff was so welcoming and willing to help. Such a delight to see and experience how a historical building can blend so seamlessly with modern renovations. Dog urine- No AC

Our room smelled like dog urine. We got our room cleaned many times and the stench would not go away. It is a pet friendly hotel our guess is that pets urinated on the mattresses. Because both the mattress in the room smelled so bad of pet urine. On our secound night the AC unit in the hotel stopped working. You can imagine with Puerto Rico humidity and the smell of dog urine our room was unbearable.

While the staff at this property were lovely, the whole place felt weirdly soulless for a location so filled with rich culture and loads of history. What was most bothersome, however, is that the rooms just never truly felt clean. Dust on lamps, other folks hair on the floor, and the hotel was weirdly stingy with towels (in a room with two queen beds they gave us one wash cloth). This hotel is in a great location, but I’m not sure i would stay here again or recommend it to anyone. We were excited to check out and head to a different stay after a few nights.

My experience was a mixed bag

Staff was very attentive. I had dinner at the on-site restaurant. Food was good. But it was odd that vegetables were not included with some of the meals (like snapper and salmon). I would like to have had a vegetable. The pool was nice. Hot tub was just luke warm, though. When I checked out I suggested they get the slow-close springs for the doors because the room doors slam shut. I kept hearing slamming doors throughout the night when I was trying to sleep. If you have a rental car, parking is a challenge in this area. But the few overnight garages have reasonable prices. But plan on walking several blocks any of the garages to the hotel, unless you are lucky and score on-street parking as I did on 1 of my 2 nights there.

We booked two rooms for one week and really enjoyed our stay. The staff were friendly and helpful. The courtyard was a great place to sit and talk and read. The hotel is walking distance to many great restaurants. We enjoyed the rooftop pool and deck. The rooms were comfortable, but a bit dark. We enjoyed the silent movie clips that were projected onto the wall each night (see pic).
