Every time I left my hotel room, the room key would stop working. I was holding it too close to my phone each time this happened. That is certainly my fault! But get this:
I had to return to the front desk 4 times for this reason. I understand that it happened because I was holding the card too close to my phone, but the way the man behind the desk addressed me was the problem. For context, I am a young woman traveling alone across the country.
Not only would he stand in the doorway of my room after unlocking it, not allowing me in, he was also repeatedly telling me to “relax” and “chill out,” while simultaneously raising his voice at me. Not a particularly self-aware individual.
The next day, which was the fourth time I was locked out of my room, I waited in the vacant lobby, calling them from my own phone with no one there coming to answer it. I had to find a staff only door to knock on to be acknowledged. The same man from the night before suddenly appeared, immediately shouting at me for disturbing him. Then I started matching his volume and he was furious, which in turn required two other staff to calm him down. Just pathetic. To the credit of the other staff, they were so embarrassed of him that I was fully refunded.
When I returned to my room to pack up my belongings and leave early, my door stood open and unattended.
Creepy and disgusting.
