So fun, stroll around.

I loved this place. At one time it was a big hoopie-do with the aristocrats but now it is well preserved. The grounds are quite big so you can stroll around, which you definitely should do. The haunted Ghost stories shouldn't bother you, i didn't see anything even though we were looking and i had a friend that was a little bit clairvoyant. Whatever.

We stayed in the original wing of the historic inn. (There are newer sections that were built in the 80’s.) The bathroom, fixtures, and room environment were a bit worn, but it was charming and comfortable. It was quiet. We walked across the street to have dinner at a fabulous bbq steakhouse. I would return.

Biggest problem was that they don't understand the meaning of different bed sizes. We booked a double queen room (which I thought meant there would be 2 queen sized beds). However, there was only one bed and due to it being late etc... we didn't notice it was just a full sized until we had already settled in. The next day, I told the staff and they said they could change us to a room with a queen bed and both rooms available that supposedly had queen beds were also only full sized. Also, when we checked in the first day, there was a large group of angry people in the lobby taking turns to yell at the front desk people demanding their money back (it seems their reservations also weren't as they were supposed to get). Then on our 2nd day in passing through the lobby, the front desk was trying to resolve another booking mistake for a different man who was supposed to have 2 beds and they were only giving him a room with one. All of the above were booking/mgmt mistakes, but the final one was the maid service where they did the basics, but left some obvious trash in the room.

The staff and room were both a great comfort. The pub on the first floor is an amazing place. The bartender made the night go by quickly.

This is really two hotel properties: the original ranch-style reception, lounge and restaurant with an attached two-story hotel, and a rather anodyne modern 'tower' building with small businesses on the first floor and an adjoining multi-story parking garage. Our room was, by choice, in the older original portion of the complex. The grounds around it are lovely and well-maintained. The building, hallways and rooms show their age. They are tidy and in reasonably good order, but expect squeaky floors, sticky doors, and creature comforts that were added long after the motel opened in 1917. We paid extra for the balcony and never stepped out onto it; it was dusty and not very inviting. The pool and surrounding landscaping was spectacular and this alone would prompt a repeat visit. How often do you find a truly DEEP hotel pool these days? The water was clean and the backdrop of the old rambler-style hotel and royal palms was really beautiful. All in all, a quirky but memorable place to spend the night, and the rates were reasonable.
