I understand that this area was hit hard by a hurricane several months ago and if they had been transparent about it, that would have been much more acceptable but they don’t warn you about this. The weather, the beach and the town made the stay acceptable as they are stunning but there is construction everywhere. There is storm debris still waiting to be cleared and picked up. Our “cottage” was a room down a hallway in, what used to be, a large house. The balcony had no railing and we were told to “just don’t go out there.” There was wires and cables attached up a telephone pole that looked like a third world country. Our doors to the balcony would not lock. The railing to the stairs to walk out front were covered in black mold, there was dirty socks on the deck and the rock “yard” along with some broken patio furniture and broken toys. There was also a mattress laying there for the first night though it was removed the next day. There was a kitchenette in the room but the dishwasher smelled so bad that I ran it empty hoping to fix the smell… it didn’t. There was a cutting board, which we turned over, and it was covered in mold.
As for the staff, it is advertised that beach towels are included in the rental, we went to the office to request towels around 930 and were told that they did not have any but would call us when they got some from laundry. We received a call almost 2 hours later. We had already gotten our own towels. Stay inland and visit the beach!
