Horrible

Merely 5 steps into the building, I was greeted by an angry woman demanding I "choose whether I wanted to stay here or not" because their elevators were broken. I'll ome back to the important of the elevators shortly. The woman noted I would not be given a refund if I chose somewhere else, and would be charged full price if I stayed here, but added in "you won't get what we offer here elsewhere". Slamming competition, particularly those of equal merrit and owned by the same parent company, is always a bad look and unprofessional. Most importantly, the elevators were broken when we stayed here 2 weeks ago (they actually broke that night, during a storm). We were assured at checkout they'd have them fixed before returning on our trip back through. I'll note that visit was neither good nor bad, just an average overnight stay with bare necessities. We chose to return solely because we did not require any of the higher end facilities other chains in the area offered. What bothers me the most about the elevators is that (1) They KNEW ahead of time they were broken but chose not to call visitors, potentially ones with mobility issues, so they had time to book another hotel. (2) they did this knowing they planned to not give a refund and that other hotels would be full, so visitors were forced to stay here. On arrival, hotels in the area (which are nicer by the way) were going for 2x-3x as much. Taking into consideration that there will be visitors who aren't tech savvy to book

First room we had no water pressure in the bathroom sink. When I mentioned it I was told that some rooms were like that. Also there was a nasty foot odor that wouldn’t go away. We eventually got a new room and it had plenty of water pressure and smelled normal. Also, woman at reception was a bit overwhelmed and testy.

The room was not a great layout for two adults and three kids. The TV was on a mount, but did not pivot so those on the beds could watch. The in room refrigerator sucked because it didn't really work that well. The worst thing was the shower. It had a glass door and a gasket to keep the water in, but the door/gasket didn't seal well, so a giant puddle was waiting when each of us finished our shower. I also thought the barn door set-up on the bathroom was stupid, mostly because a large part of the door was frosted glass. This meant when anyone needed to use the bathroom when everyone else was asleep, they either had to fumble around in the dark, or turn the light on and probably wake everyone up. They had a pool, but it was so hot the day we stayed and there was no shade , so getting in that pool would have been a terrible experience. The weather is not their fault, but the lack of any shade or umbrellas to provide some relief is on the hotel. Finally, there are very active train tracks running right behind the hotel. Again, not the hotel's fault, but worth noting if you're a light sleeper... maybe it's not as noticeable if your room is on the front of the property. The place was clean enough, the continental breakfast was good (for what it is), and the hotel staff were respectful (if not overly friendly), so I would stay there again in a pinch, but I will not willingly choose this location in the future.

The property had the misfortune of a lightning strike just before our arrival. Upon arrival we were informed that the elevators had a direct strike and were inoperable. Having a special needs child in a wheelchair, the general manager offered to carry our child to the third floor room we had. TV was also out but not a critical item of our concern. Overall the staff was cheerful, cordial and very helpful. Kudos to Denrick Matsaira, the GM. He rocks!
