Savannah Stopover

The cute Thunderbird Inn met our needs for a one night stay. The bed was comfortable and our room was quiet. Front desk employees were friendly and welcoming. Coffee, donuts and juice in the lobby were a nice and unexpected touch for the room price.

The Retro feel, Felt like we went back in time with the style of the motel. Loved the free donuts & coffee every day. Staff was super friendly & helpful during our stay. The only reason I gave 4 stars is that the key machine was broken while we were there.

The best thing this property has going for it is the staff. Hands down, they were super friendly and helpful. The key system to all rooms was down the entirety of our 4 day stay, so hats off to the staff because they literally had to open the door for each guest as they came in and out of their rooms. As for the hotel itself, I was not pleased. The air conditioner struggled to get out of the 70s. The mini fridge had a super musty odor, the phone inside the room did not work, the light over the sink randomly came on & off, the bathroom door was dirty/stained, as was the base of the toilet, I had to request an iron because there wasn’t one in the room, and it came without an ironing board. Also, the TV is streaming only, you can’t watch it unless you have a subscription to a streaming service & can cast from your phone. I get branding an older motel as “vintage” but honestly…it’s no different than a motel 6. Im also super disappointed in having to pay for parking when the property has its own parking lot. The ratio of spaces to total rooms begs the question of why guests would need to pay $25 a night for parking. They could easily limit to one car per room…it’s a total money grab. Paying an extra $100 to park for the quality rooms offered makes this an extremely overpriced property that I would not book again. The staff really made up for the inconveniences, really enjoyed them, but would not ever book here again.

This is such a cute retro hotel. It’s in a walkable location. The vibe and decor are fun. We loved the donuts, cola, moon pies, coffee, popcorn, and lemonade. Front desk staff was helpful and welcoming. If you are able to bring your own fan, it will help because the room doesn’t get super cool. Everything was great until the final day when housekeeping g kept pushing us to leave. After telling them what time we were leaving, they came to the room twice to come in while we were getting ready. They even open the door before we could go over to answer the door. It was very unprofessional and a terrible way to end our stay on Father’s Day.

Favorite spot in Savannah! We’ve stayed here 3+ times now. Perfect location that’s walkable to downtown and River Street. The staff is always very kind and goes above and beyond. The icing on top? The complimentary donuts are absolutely fantastic.

Overall the rooms were clean. We did get moved twice because the first room, we could r get my husbands cpap plugged into the outlet by the bed, the second rooms door wouldn’t lock and the 3rd room we stayed in. The Inn definitely needs some major updates. I understand it has a retro theme but two of the rooms were rusting on the walls and you could start to see through the bottom. Also, some outlet covers were gone and one phone didn’t work. However, the desk attendant was very helpful and the doughnuts were great.

Stayed here for the experience of a motel and this I would say is probably one of the better ones . Done on a 60s theme it is delightful. I would recommend getting a room on the upper level as it can get noisy in the morning.

This is an older property and you can tell, however the staff is amazing. The rooms are overall clean and tidy. This isn’t the Ritz so expectation of the guest should stay in perspective. The location is across from the bus station and located on a busy corner, this limits the ability of the hotel to maintain a clean property and a peaceful environment. Distance to the historic Savannah is within walking distance. It’s a family hotel and the noise of the guest was within reason and other than a jerk in a truck doing spin outs at the light it was easy to sleep.
