I knew this hotel was in decline, that a property this size is more difficult to maintain financially. Realistically this place should close and be demolished in favour of something else. I had no towels in my room when i checked and, after asking TWICE, still did not get any. Didnt matter in the end because the bathroom was so filthy i wouldnt have used it other than for the toilet.

The hotel itself needs a lick of paint in places, the decor was nice, the staff on day of arrival were absolutely shocking & rude, we had the option to upgrade to a room with windows which was on the 6th floor which we did & am glad of as we could get fresh air into our room, the hotel is placed on the beachfront which was ideal although the weather was not great which can't be helped obvioulsy, but would stay again

I loved our room 102 up on the first floor. (Only one flight stairs from ground floor) so extremely good if you have bad knees like my friend and I, though there is a lift). with seaview and balcony, though it would of been so much better if the balcony doors opened and you could go out onto the balcony itself. The balcony doors only opened a fraction because of a door wire key lock. That said there is a lovely huge terrace overlooking the bay, does need quite abit of tender loving care but all this maintenance cost spondoolies eh!!!. All the staff in every department work really hard here to keep everything running smoothly, I hope the management looks after them well to keep the incentive going. Staff are all very friendly and polite. We came in just after 1am and there were staff still cleaning and hoovering the ground level seating area. It must be never ending.

Dining area, coffee lounge and Main Entrance area were very pretty on first arrival. The corridors were dirty, very dusty/dirty skirting boards, dirty door frames, dirty toilets. The metal checker plate infront of the lift was held on by 2 screws and a very dangerous trip hazard. The public toilets were dirty and smelly. Our room had some form of bodily fluid/ solid dried onto the radiator. The window sill was filthy and dusty, as were the skirting boards. No shower mat to stand on when getting out of the shower which is a slip hazard. One side of the sink panel was broken. There were stains on the wall, which were obviously drink stains.Dirty linen piled on the floor in a doorway which is a fire risk as well as an obstruction. I was recovering from surgery on my foot, when I asked for a spare pillow to elevate it I was told they didn’t have any spare. I couldn’t shower due to being frightened of slipping. Unfortunately, other than the breakfast and the main staircase in reception, the hotel definitely didn’t live up to its name in any shape or form. Very very disappointed and disgusted and will never go back.

i know we get what we pay for ,but bathroom shoddy and dirty the bed is absolutely pathetic solid lumpy and roll out as its tilting out may i suggest one of your bosses actually takes time to look around and see what your offering this is second time been to the grand, but grand its not unless its down for roughs and up for the posh. so sorry will never come back again

Suprised by how it looked inside , not run down like thought . Room's were nice enough but sea view rooms are not that great due to the filthiness off the windows outside due to seagulls and becsuse of single pane windows kept us awake all night . The entertainment room is a bit outdated and the lift and stairs also . If it wasnt for the seagulls i think it would of been a pleasant stay and would there again due to the location

The building is very grand,the Empress bar and sun terrace are lovely. The room was clean and a lovely see view but for the last day our TV wouldn't work and I was told by the Duty manager that it couldn't be repaired or replaced which I was really not happy about!!

Absolutely terrible stay will never stay again we came to stay for my 40th birthday this was our first stay and will be our last we checked in quite late as we arrived late we entered our room and it was so hot we thought the heating had been on it was unbearably hot we had one window which opened about 4 cm so didn’t make any difference whatsoever I went down to reception to report the heat problem to be told that they would provide another fan which never got brought to us we used the one fan provided which made absolutely no difference as it was just circulating hot air me and my partner wanted to leave but was unable to afford another hotel we checked out at 6am after having maximum an hours sleep all night the receptionist didn’t even ask how our stay was or thank us she was particularly rude me and my partner spend my 40th birthday night too and tailing as it was so hot in the room we couldn’t even sleep next to each other it completely ruined my birthday we had seen the hotel on tv and presumed it would be a good hotel to say we were disappointed was an understatement would not recommend and certainly would never ever stay there again it was terrible

Utterly disgusting. Damp and mould in the room. Litter in the corridors, lifts were dirty. Also a domestic kicking off and no one available to deal with it and told there's no security.

Room was clean but when i ask for tea bags etc they only gave 2 teabags 2 coffees 2 milk so had to keep wasting time going back quewing sometimes to get more also no spare pillows in wardrobe again
