Excellent hotel. Except the restaurant at dinner, the manager ...well we didn't have dinner. But the hotel is beautiful and the rest of the staff, specially all the ladies at reception were wonderful attentive hosts. Location is perfect with the sea right in front of you and you can walk to downtown.

An amazing property. Beautifully kept grounds, large well designed rooms, and attentive staff. A 20 minute walk to central Matera. Breakfast was fabulous!

Gattini bills itself as a 5 star hotel. My partner and I would not normally pay the extra amount that that 5th star seems to require, but we were desperate to have a refuge from the August heat in Matera at the end of the day … and staying at Gattini was a great decision. It really is quite wonderful and didn’t seem so expensive once we experienced all the good things that Gattini offered. The breakfast was the best we had in 51 days of travel in Spain Portugal and then Italy. Our thanks to the great staff for a great experience in Matera.

The palazzo is a lovely old house in the center of town right off the main square. The secret sauce here is the large, beautiful garden in back and the extremely personalized service. The staff makes every effort to please and assist. The general approach is thoughtful and old school in a nice way. We had a large room facing the street that was comfortable with high ceilings and lots of space. Bernalda, at first, seems like a not particularly lovely little town but it does grow on you. The house is infused by the interests and personality of the owner Francis Ford Coppola -- probably the principal reason most people visit. Fortunately, the hotel mostly lives up to the expectations...
