Huge room, nice bar and restaurant areas. All the usual good things you come to expect from Holiday Inn Express which I’ve stayed at for hundred of times. Service at bar shortly after check in was awful and easily the worst example that I’ve experienced in any hotel worldwide in the past 40 years. Won’t go into details here but very poor way to behave indeed and not how HIE usually do things.

A Perfect Location

We came to Shrewsbury to travel by train to Cardiff to go to see a rugby match. The Holiday Express was a perfect location. The staff were friendly, the bar and small restaurant were adequate - we had a light evening meal which was good. We stayed 2 nights, the room and bed were very comfortable and the breakfasts were absolutely superb - the best we have had in any hotel. It was also very quiet and safe to leave our car.

Worse than anticipated

Budget Hôtel therefore not expecting great things. Arrived late and given room that had not been serviced. Dirty sheets, unmade bed, dirt and tissues everywhere. New room allocated stains on carpets, broken springs in bed with huge dents in mattress. Failure of hot water to heat on first day and a fan that was making clicking by noises. The breakfast was average and the bar souless. There are lots of nice hotels in the area that I usually stay at - I’d try one of those before staying here. At least the staff are nice.
