The amenities are not great but they are good especially for a more economically friendly hotel. The beds were comfortable. They were in the process of updating rooms.

Overall it wasn't a bad hotel for the money. The front desk could have looked a little more professional. The ice machine was broken, and the bed was hard. The room looks like it was redone and did look nice. The bathroom wasn't fully rehabbed yet and had some dirty, rusty vents. The breakfast was a standard continental with waffle maker which was good. Some of the guests were a bit strange....not wearing any shoes to breakfast, etc. For the money, I can't complain too much. It's rare to find a hotel under $60 for two people.

I checked in at 7:20 PM after an afternoon at a professional conference and dinner. The check-in clerk was polite and gave me a second floor room, although on my reservation I had requested a first floor room. Fortunately, the hotel had an elevator. The room was large and practically empty. It had one queen bed, where I think there used to be two. It had no upholstered chair or anywhere to sit comfortably. There was an old chest of drawers and an old table that looked like it used to be in a school, along with a wooden school chair. For some reason, the room had a full-size refrigerator, empty, a full-size microwave, and a bank of kitchen cabinets with a formica countertop. There were no pans, dishes, glassware, silverware, or anything else that a person would use in such a "kitchen", and no sink. It was cold in the room, so I immediately turned up the heat. The heater operated well, but there was a constant cold draft coming from the window, even with the drape closed. The window looked out on a courtyard with a blazing fire in a stone fireplace. In front of the fireplace were three children under 5, poking sticks into the fire until the sticks lit up, and then running to a nearby tree and trying to set the tree on fire with the burning sticks. I called the front desk and reported this. The clerk came outside immediately, but the children continued their behavior, soon accompanied by shouting. I decided not to complain further as it would not do any good.

Nice hotel
It was a nice room and not too hard to find. There are no coffee machines in the rooms which was a little odd and you had to travel down to where the front desk was to be able to get coffee but that's just a creature comfort people are used to being able to have in the rooms. Not a huge selection for the breakfast but what they had was good and clean and friendly.

We arrived at 4pm and were able to check in. We went out room and housekeeping was still cleaning our room. My kids wanted to shower in the afternoon after they went swimming so we went to the front desk. They did not have any towels available. There were rooms under construction so there were empty rooms. Your a hotel, how do you not have enough towels. I went to get something out of the vending machine and it wasn’t working. The ice machine had the bottom broken out of it. It consistently smelled of marijuana and perfume down all the halls. Cops were there at one point of our stay. We left early…. Won’t be back.

One of best price values ever!
My only hesitation in raving about The Dakota too much is a fear that they’ll raise their rates too high for me to return! I have stayed in hundreds of hotels through the years and this is one of my favorites. The outside grounds are only so so and I think they do themselves a disservice with the condition of their blacktop. The inside is kept very clean. The breakfast isn’t elaborate, but very good. The suite I stayed in is excellent. Not a full fridge but a good sized one (see picture). Huge microwave. Quiet, convenient location. Recommend highly!
