Great location - a real olde worlde inn with uneven floors but modern comfort. The car park took a little finding - but good directions on the hotel's own website. Great breakfast
Good bedroom and central position. Evening meal involved microwaved food which was just about edible. Breakfast food better quality however 90 minute wait for cooked breakfast one day. Second day 30 minutes and run out of some of the food. It good enough for a hotel with this rating.
Sadly this wasn't a good stay.
I needed to get access to my room earlier. The staff were nice and organised this for me which was excellent.
There was some confusing mis messaging about the wifi when I joined and so I tried to dial down to reception to ask but the phone in the room was disconnected.
When I got onto the wifi the quality was very poor which led to 2 very bad calls with clients. I had to use my phone's signal as wifi in the end but phone signal was bad so this also wasn't good. Wifi was good the next morning so it seems to be inconsistent.
The room was cold and there were no controls for the temperature - found myself getting into bed fully clothed in the evening to stay warm.
Ordered room service which cam promptly and was good quality.
Staff were nice but were missing a lot. A few times not at reception, at the bar or at the restaurant which caused me a few delays.
Worst part was that my room seemed to be over an area where they were banging, moving heavy things every 1-5 minutes from around 10pm to at least 12:30 which meant I couldn't fall asleep.
A combination of room temperature, noise and thin pillows meant I got very little sleep which led to the stay being pointless as I had chosen to stay locally to be fresh for an important, long meeting the next day.
So I won't stay again. Poor wifi and lots of noise at night means it just isn't a good hotel despite the staff and food being nice.
We arrived about 40 mins before check in time and parked our car in the last space in the hotel's carpark. I went in to explain that we were going to leave our car and the very friendly lady on reception told us that we could check in early. We stayed in a lovely room that had everything you needed for a comfortable stay.
That evening we had a few drinks in the very popular bar but we didn't eat in the restaurant (we had other plans).
The next morning we were greeting in the restaurant for breakfast by a very cheerful lady who explained the breakfast menu to us. Breakfast was great-plenty of cold choice and the cooked breakfast was fantastic! Check out was quick and easy. If ever we were in the area again we would definitely stay at The Swan.
Staff were really friendly, especially Amberly in the breakfast restaurant. The room was very comfortable and it and the whole hotel full of character.
A lovely, welcoming hotel. Difficult to find their free car park. Bedroom cosy, warm and well furnished with fluffy towels and crisp, white bed linen. A hearty breakfast..plentiful and well presented. Staff friendly and helpful... young Holly M served us breakfast and all our needs...a pot of tea and fresh coffee. We felt the hotel was definately good value!!
We were very well looked after from the minute we stepped through the door. Bar staff, restaurant staff and reception were very friendly and welcoming. The quality of the food in the hotel restaurant. We had Sunday lunch and breakfast the following morning. Everything was freshly cooked, well presented and of the very highest quality. Our room was spotless and spacious. Toiletries that were provided were exceptional! These are available to purchase at reception for anyone wanting to take some home. The hotel is very relaxing, we had total peace and quiet in our room. We will definitely return to this hotel. We had the perfect weekend.
The Swan is a very nice town centre hotel located on a quiet high street. We were greeted by very friendly and accomodating staff. The food served was of a consistently high standard. Breakfast in particular was excellent, served by staff who brightened our day with their enthusiasm and cheerfulness. We would definitely stay here again.
Lovely coaching inn full of history and very well thought out decor and spaces. Great sized rooms, tho a bit cold as old windows/big bathrooms etc.... bathroom REAllY cold.
Very much enjoyed the stay and would recommend
What a beautiful establishment to stay in. Hospitality was excellent. Coming from New Zealand and experiencing a true English atmosphere and old world charm. Great to read about the history of The Swan. The cost was amazing. Best place so far on our Europe trip.
Thanks very much to the cleaning team and staff who accommodated and made our stay enjoyable.
