Friendly staff. When they couldn't give us the accessible room we had requested they upgraded our room to a king. Very nice room. Property is older but well kept.

This property is like stepping back in time, but it’s clean and well taken care of. (Minus the very dirty chandelier outside of the elevators.) the fake flowers in the room should probably hit the road. They are outdated and just fancy dust collectors. The outlets did not keep cords plugged in. The check in process was quick and the man at the desk was friendly. This was the cheapest hotel in the area and since it’s just a place to go to sleep, we didn’t need anything fancy. We didn’t have a car, but the parking lot was very nice and big. We felt safe walking to nearby restaurants. Taco Bell, Wallgreens and a gas station are next door. The train can be heard from the room, but not too crazy loud. There is lots of car/truck noise, so bring a fan or noise machine to drown them out. The air conditioning was cold, the shower was hot, beds were comfortable, but the pillows were thin. We asked the front desk for more and they supplied us with nice, thick pillows. The breakfast shouldn’t be advertised as breakfast, but more as a snack. You aren’t allowed to take anything with you out of the breakfast room. There were cold (almost like they were frozen) muffins, toaster waffles, bread and apples. Zero protein and all carbs except the apple. A mini fridge with yogurt or hard boiled eggs or cheese sticks would be a great addition. Coffee and OJ was good. The room had a microwave and fridge so that was nice. If we are in the area visiting family again, we would stay again.

Carpets were dirty, rooms were decent size but overpriced. Blankets were old as heck and stains on windows. People living on the top Floor so they don’t give those rooms out. Old AC in window but worked. Front desk people were fake friendly. Heard sirens all night and the train. Not worth the price at all.

the price was great but you get what you pay for. the picture used for this hotel is very misleading, not near water at all and in a rough part of CT. bed was not comfortable, hair dryer didnt work. i liked that there was hot water to shower. the AC was loud and so is the surroundings. you could hear people driving by.

The beds were absolutely horrible. The pillows are so flat. You didn’t feel like you had your head on One. We couldn’t change the channels on the TV.

Set Reasonable Expectations

The Amsterdam Hotel was an extremely cost-effective option in Stamford, where the average hotel rates have skyrocketed. That said, set your expectations accordingly. This is a dated hotel with old furnishings and no frills (although the included continental breakfast was a nice extra). However, the staff is friendly and helpful, the room was spotlessly clean, and it's within walking or short drive distance from whatever you want to do in Stamford. I felt like I got my money's worth.

The hotel definitely needs a “facelift” but the property is kept clean, staff very friendly and accommodating. Included breakfast sparse but more than acceptable for my morning needs. Free parking and location a HUGE plus. Might not be for everyone but I will definitely stay there again on another visit to Connecticut.

The staff were very nice and accommodating but the elevators didn't work correctly. The mattresses were so uncomfortable for our chronic back pain that we had to leave.
