A permanent entry on my Sydney shortlist

The Great Southern is an important presence on my shortlist of Sydney hotels for short stays. Great value. Some may not appreciate the older-style decor, which matches the hotel's history. But what you need for a short visit is a comfortable bed, power outlets, hot water, and a convenient location — and all this is here. Even better, the bar downstairs — run by a separate entity — is wonderfully friendly.

Location and Convenience

I love the position in particular. It is close to Central Station, it has easy access to light rail transport and with many tourist attractions close by. However the room was very quiet in spite of all the activity around. Good bed, extra pillows and appreciated the great shower facilities.

Great Southern Hotel

Have stayed at Great Southern Hotel a few times now. Within walking distance to transport and Eateries. Clean and comfortable rooms, Restaurant has tasty and reasonably priced meals. Breakfast option is good too. Would highly recommended this Hitel, thankyou.

Great location but sadly needs a revamp. I hadn't stayed here for some years & don't think anything has been revamped since. Disappointed this stay. Easy walk from Central Station & Light Rail outside makes it very convenient but sadly needs updating.

Fantastic old world hotel. We started and finished our lions tour there. I would recommend the hotel to anyone. Good food, good bar, in a nice area with good transport links.

The hotel is in a fantastic location. The tram stop is 50 yards away which takes you to the main shopping areas and to circular quay, which is for the Opera house, Harbour Bridge and ferries. The hotel rooms are clean and serviced daily. The only downside to the hotel is the rooms are on the small side and dated, other than that I would highly recommend this hotel.
