Hotel itself was ok. Very convenient to tourist area and right next to takayama train station. Reception staff was very good and even spoke English. Beds were very uncomfortable, hallway was dark and there was only one elevator. But the primary reason we booked there was to use the washing machine. 95 % of our clothes are cold wash only and low heat to dry. There was no way to change it and the desk staff confirmed it. That was the reason for the average rating

It was very well located just past the train and bus station. There were multiple grocery stores 15-20min walk away and a family mart across the road. Most of Takayama was within walking distance and we visited Hida no Sato easily via bus. The apartment was spacious with a double bed and 2 twin beds and had a full kitchen with a fridge, stove and microwave, utensils and basics like oil, salt and pepper supplied. There was a good bathroom, dining table, a washer/dryer (with detergent) and a balcony. The apartment was on the top floor and very quiet for it's location however there was only 1 lift so there was usually a wait. Having the double bed in its own room was a nice touch however a small sofa near the television would be good. The sorting of rubbish was a bit unclear .

This is a great hotel close to Takayama station. Walkable to attractions. Love that there is a washing machine and kitchenette in the room. Will definitely stay here again.

Very helpful staff. Room is spacious and clean. Only thing we are disappointed is the tissues box was empty on first night (not much left in the box), they cleaned the room daily and it never gets refilled on the 2nd and 3rd day. We have to use toliet roll as tissues in the room.

The hotel is pretty much next to the JR terminal and bus station, super convenient. Yet, it is very quiet inside the unit, we never got woken up by street noises. We enjoyed our stay very much, our unit was quite spacious and beds were comfortable. We loved having the kitchen where we prepared a few delicious meals; although the kitchen can be stocked with more utensils, bowls, pots, etc. The laundry unit seems brand new, super helpful to be able to do our laundries inside (except it took awhile to dry the clothes.) Also, enjoyed the daily onsen at their partnered hotel nearby, just wished that it was next door. We will definitely recommend the Residence Hotel to others and will stay here again if we're visiting Takayama!

My stay at this hotel was more than satisfying, it was excellent. The staff were friendly, attentive, and professional. The room was great all around in terms of space, cleanliness, and such. I will definitely come back when I visit Japan again.

We enjoyed the layout especially with the bedroom, kitchenette and free laundry pods and washing machine. It made it easier for us to stay with a preschooler since my husband and I could chat in the kitchenette area after my preschooler was asleep in the bedroom. We didn't have to wait to use the toilet or bathroom since they were separated. We used the kitchenette for one of our lunches by buying groceries. It was very convenient to walk to the old town and river morning markets in less than 15 minutes. Check out was easy especially since it's almost right next to the bus depot and train station. We highly recommend staying at the Residence Hotel to all our friends when we got home.

Pros: The location is good! Cons: It was very dirty - the washroom in the lobby, hallways, room - almost like it's never cleaned. Staff does not communicate well in English, but try to be helpful and polite. There is only one elevator, which is always busy, which we didn't mind as lived on floor 3, but we had to use the stairs - and that's what shocked me - the rails by the stair are useless, confusing and dangerous - there is no railings, glass or anything that would prevent a child from falling between the 2-3 railings that are there (imagine for the whole set of 10 stairs there is only 3-4 tiny poles and NOTHING in between them). My very tall 6 year old could easily walk under those and fall down. It was very cheap, but I would not come back.
