Great 2 nights in North Yorkshire.

Beautiful comfortable and stylish room in the Market place in the centre of Thirsk, a two nights stay for my wife's birthday, we could not fault this 4star hotel , and would certainly stay again if going to North Yorkshire and would recommend it for your stay.

Overall we had a lovely stay and the staff were brilliant. We had booked a superior double room and were given room 1. We were disappointed with this room as it had a smell of drains coming from the bathroom and was also quite small. We asked to be moved but were told this wasn’t possible due to the hotel being full, however, this would not stop us staying there again. We ate breakfast and dinner in the hotel and the food was really lovely.

Unfortunately our room was far too hot, making our stay uncomfortable meaning we couldn’t sleep. The reason being, there were hot water pipes running through the bedroom and en-suite which were very hot 24 hours a day. A small fan was provided which was woefully inadequate to cope with the heat. We did ask to move rooms but were told there was no other room available and in any case all other rooms had hot water pipes running through too. Overall this problem spoiled our stay in the hotel.

This is an amazing property in a lovely city. Part of The Coaching Inns Group, they are unique historic places with excellent service and fabulous food. There is no elevator, but they graciously moved our heavier luggage.

The room we had for 3 people was lovely. A seperate area for the 3rd person. We had dinner in the restaurant and the meal was excellent. We visited the Herriot museum & This was in walking distance from the hotel.

What I liked:The staff at the front desk were wonderful! Very helpful, kind and efficient. What I did NOT LIKE:It was thirty-nine steps to our room, #15, NO LIFT! My wife and I are both in our mid-sixties and this was VERY rough on us.

Food excellent.

The building was needing a little attention, as a tired looking. Shower could be bigger. We had a evening meal which was fantastic. Breakfast was excellent but a bit costly.

The hotel staff where lovely and the rooms very spacious and clean ,we stayed in 24 could have done with a note on the entrance door for people not to slam tge door or bang theyre cases up and down the stairs as number 24 is right under the stairs .Had a lovely stay will be back .

Great Location

We stayed at the Golden Fleece for 4 nights. The location can't be beat. Right at the center of the town, so easy walking distance to all the shops, pubs and James Herriot museum. Our spacious room faced the square and was very quiet. A fresh bottle of water was left each day, which was appreciated. All the staff that we encountered were very friendly and helpful. Parking for the hotel is available. Just be aware that there is no lift.
