Excellent location with multiple dining options and shopping and entertainment within walking distance. The facilities were quaint, the room was comfortable and well amenitied. The public parking lot was easily accessible and inexpensive, and there were many public transportation options in the area.

I'm tempted to say that this place is awful so it doesn't get sold out all the time and the price goes up. But that would be wrong. So.... I will be honest and say that we absolutely LOVED staying here! The Madison is an old Victorian building, right off a major street on a quiet tree lined avenue in the heart of uptown TO. Everything is close by. University of Toronto is steps away so a lot of the pubs, bars, restaurants are full of university kids. To me, this is part of the charm of the Madison. Around 10 PM, the street out in front of the hotel was full of students dressed up for a night out, waiting to get into the pub next door. I won't say it's the quietest place, but happy voices of tomorrow's future leaders give me a sense of being on vacation! As far as the hotel itself goes, it's an acquired taste. When you walk in the front door there's a stunning staircase that leads to rooms one and two floors above. There's no elevator, but there's an incredible charm to the building. It's very homey, it's very well decorated in the period of its time, and the room we had with a king bed overlooking the street was clean, spacious and comfortable. I literally felt like I had stepped back into 1910! You could almost feel the spirits of people who have stayed there in the past, even to the point of a door that occasionally rattled a bit... (maybe the ghost of a house keeper from the past??) It's truly a real gem, and for sure we'll be back! LOVE IT!

I was doing research at the ROM. This hotel was close. I'd stay here again, but it is an old building with unique problems. Night 1 I had a 4-hour online business meeting, and I sat there freezing because the heat wouldn't work. When the meeting was done, I went to the associated bar and asked for help. The staff solved the problem immediately. Not a perfect place, but responsive and, well, unique. Would I stay here again? Yeah, absolutely!

Great place, old furniture but all in all was a lovely place. Only negative is that the fireplace didn’t work, so it was quite cold in the room.

Comfortable stay in an old hotel in downtown Toron
The hotel is an old building in Toronto downtown surrounded by similar old houses but few steps away from the metro and a city bus terminal. The administration was in the adjacent pub, bearing the same name; it could be easily found. We prepaid the parking for the whole stay at the public parking lot just beside the hotel with referencing the license plate (not the ticket displayed at the windshield) so leaving the parking lot and re-entering several times was not an issue. The room was rather charming, very clean, no smell of cleaning chemicals, well maintained and basic amenities were available. The bathroom was clean with shower, towels fresh and clean. The food at the pub was good and very affordable. Considering that our stay was around New Years Eve, the price was very affordable. If you are looking for a glittering new hotel (priced double) this is not your choice. We were satisfied and recommend it.
