The room was small and looked and felt like a student college room rather than a hotel room. It was basic but clean and comfortable. The breakfasts at the White Hart were good but the quality of the food, wine and service in the evening were very variable. The same dish (chicken) was excellent the first time but the second time around was much less so. The buildings and gardens are what make Dartington Hall special and it would be well worth tolerating the deficiencies just to see them.
We stayed in a suite. It was excellent. Room was well laid out with living area and big open fire place and ample of seating then the bedroom had everything needed to make the stay comfortable with hairdryer and iron in wardrobe. It had a mini fridge, coffee machine and additional coffee and tea and a big bathroom with both bath and shower. Very clean. Eating out at the White Hart was within walking distance. Excellent food. Breakfast was fantastic, cereal, yoghurt and compote, full English breakfast and toast and croissants. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay
We were very disappointed with the stay.
None of the radiator’s were warm the towel rail only the bottom half was warm. The tv in the lounge the buttons on the remote were so worn that you couldn’t get them to work properly so couldn’t watch tv. We were so cold we decided to go to bed early and watch the tv in the bedroom the tv was stuck on 4 if you pressed another channel it just did 4444. The net curtain in lounge was ripped. Internet was intermittent had to go outside to use phone. Towel hanger on bathroom door one of them was hanging off. In the tea tray there was a dead spider I have enclosed a photo. We were really looking forward to our stay but it was very disappointing.
My room was quaint, clean, and the bed was very comfortable. The temperature of the room was just right. Blowdryer in the room. The gardens were absolutely beautiful. The shower room was spacious and clean. Absolutely will return!
I bashed my head a couple of times as the room was an attic conversion, but the room was almost spotless, small stain on carpet by bed, and it was very cosy. the restaurant was very good value and lovely food, but not enough Vegan options. The staff were very friendly and helpful, very professional.
Lovely stay, want to come back and stay perhaps for longer next time.
Wonderful room, beautiful building. Really poor service in the restaurant, waited for 50 minutes without any food. I sat there for 20 minutes & had to ask someone if they wanted to take my drinks order ! I gave up after a further 30 minutes.
Very enjoyable stay with so much to do onsite.
Lovely old room, lots of character. Everything clean. Separate bathroom an advantage in some ways as reduces noise and is close by and allocated solely to room.
White Hart does really good food and we loved being able to go to the cinema so easily.
The estate is highly interesting and the history associated with the site fascinating. The courtyard and buildings have the feel of an Oxbridge college. The room I had was well equipped and clean, just very noisy. I moved to another single which was a bit quieter than the first but even here most sounds carried from surrounding rooms, noisy plumbing etc. It seems to be due to the construction of the building rather than particularly noisy guests If you are not troubled by this, or have decent earplugs ,it is manageable and otherwise it is a lovely place to stay. Breakfast was very good, the listed gardens can be visited and there is a good cinema on site.

It’s an ancient court yard rescued in the 1920s. The rooms are quirky , but delightful
Didn’t like costumer service , room service and horrible breakfast .

The hotel building is beautiful and the surroundings ideal,, however the hotel itself maybe not so much!
The rooms are a good size but many have their own bathroom /toilet along the corridor seperate to the bedroom this means a fairly regular opening and closing of doors with a bang all through the night (we had our facilities in our bedroom but the room right next to us had to go through a fire door to get to theirs!)
Staff - some were lovely some were not interested ,the lad at check in was only interested in getting concert tickets on the phone and not customer service while the restaurant staff were great and the food very good they were let down by kitchen issues ranging from wrong sauces on wrong plates and the menus given to customers not matching the menu they were working to ,so duck came with blue cheese and beef pie with blue cheese sauce came dry, desserts with sorbet or ice cream on them arrived with 3 blackberries instead because thats what the chefs menu apparently said it should!
Our understanding is, this is a fairly regular issue and we witnessed other tables having the same problems.
Breakfast buffet was very good though.
We had a great 2 night stay in a second floor room which had an amazing A-shaped beam in the middle of it, antique furniture and an arts & crafts fireplace - quirky and characterful. The gardens provided a peaceful walk and the bar - The White Hart - was good for a beer, we hadn't booked a table so didn't eat there.
