This is a beautiful historic hotel. The staff are all friendly, efficient and helpful. The property itself is beautiful and peaceful. Birds roosting in the courtyard trees and a bonus. The rooms are not huge, but beautifully appointed. Everything you could need is there. I would gladly return to El Capitan in the future.

Checked in a couple of hours ago. Front desk person was great. Dinner in the incredibly charming courtyard was fabulous. Really nice waitress. In the room now and it’s a little dated but bathroom is spotless, towels are nice. Bed and bed linens are comfortable and cozy. Can hear a little street noise but not enough to be bothersome. Really like this place so far; would likely stay again.

What a grand old treasure. Magnificent example of an older era gateway motel. Staff super friendly. Restaurant is wonderful. Great and reasonably priced entrees. Plus town had cheap gas!

Retro experience in modern world

Very nice hotel in the middle of Van Horn. So much better than the chain hotels for roughly the same price. Liked the restaurant and bar on site. Lots of sitting areas inside and out to soak up the ambience of the place. Everyone we encountered was happy; staff, patrons and guests!

No comment on breakfast, my wife and I left before breakfast. The bed was super comfortable and the restaurant was superb. The hotel itself is old but is maintained well. It has many unique features but the courtyard entrance was our favorite. Lastly, the hotel staff were courteous, helpful, and professional.

The El Capitan was a vision of what sophisticated Van Horn used to be like. One patron at the bar told us the the cast of the movie Giant stayed there during filming. James Dean and Liz Taylor were in the atmosphere.
