I have deliberately left it a few weeks before writing this review to ensure that I had given myself time to reflect on our stay. For the record my wife and I stayed from the 19th September until 23rd September 2024 in the Royal San Marco Hotel, Venice in a junior suite. The good news – great location, lovely breakfast room and good range of breakfast food. The bad news – our ‘junior suite’ was pretty dreadful. The day we arrived, the bath did not work correctly, disappointing after a long journey, lights in the ‘suite’ did not work, the air conditioning was partially working and not in the bedroom, the hairdryer did not work and the general appearance of the room was drab and uninspiring. Ironically photos of this ‘suite’ are not featured anywhere! To be fair these faults were addressed and fixed but who checks these things? We could not work out why our ‘suite’ had a two-ring electric hob with extractor when there were no pans or cutlery allowing you to use it, not that we wanted to cook anything but it did seem strange! It did have a fridge, but the handle was missing. The bathroom was really very poor. Dirty and very old. We did ask for another room, but they were fully booked. They boast a bar but this was not open whilst we stayed. If you want to be 50m from St Marks Square, then stay here but don't expect much. We will not be staying again.

I liked our room, junior suite was very spacious, clean. It’s a bit outdated, but we got everything we needed and only slept there. Breakfast was decent. Very close to everything we wanted to see and very quiet.

Steps away from the Piazza San Marco. Quiet and a surprisingly big apartment like room! There is a small supermarket nearby. Must try the Crema de pistachio liquor!!!

The suite was spacious and clean. It had a kitchen with nothing. No plates silverware or anything else. Not even a coffee maker or pot to heat water. The hotel was very confusing. I’ve never had trouble finding my room or receptionist many decades of travel. Even after 3 nights we still had trouble finding our room the reception or the breakfast spot. We finally found a way out to the alley with an unmarked door which we could reinter with our key. We also figured out how to get to the reception from there by walking back to the plaza and around about 100 meters. There is really no way to explain how confusing it all was. Then we went to the restaurant and they had a good menu but only had a few things available. We would not recommend it to anyone

Excellently located classical style hotel.
The hotel was very well located just off St Marc’s Square. Really convenient for tourist sites, bars and restaurants. The room was quaint and styled in a classical Venetian style. The bar looked good, but never seemed to open ? The inclusive buffet breakfast was particularly good in a building behind the main hotel. We stayed at the end of October and the weather was still pretty warm. The room was very warm over night for a couple of nights of our stay, but the central air conditioning had been turned off for Winter. We had to open the window, but the room was on the main street and was particularly noisy. Especially when a music band went past at 5am ! The direct ferry to the airport from Rialto Bridge at 6:30am was a god send for us on an early flight.

We booked the double bedroom with view to the canal, on the first floor. It was amazing. The location of the hotel is perfect. IMO is better to pay for location than to waste time commuting to nearby islands. Definetely worth it. Good breakfast, very quiet, safe and within walking distance to all main attractions including shopping, restaurants, bars.

Absolutely awful experience here the staff was beyond rude. Unhelpful acted like you were bothering them. The beds were awful. The pillows were awful for as much money as you’re spending the night. You should at least be able to get good bedding
