Highs: Staff was friendly and offered good advice on the area. The bathroom and high ceilings made things more pleasant in the room itself. Lows: No-in room coffee maker. Rooftop bar menu and service were lacking. Road noise from Washington St. permeated the room until well after midnight.

Classy and clean renovations. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. It's conveniently located 1 block away from King street, which has a plethora of dining and shopping options. I was there on the weekend, so I parked on the street, which was convenient and free for me.

The Heron is a beautiful hotel. We stayed in the Heron King, and were very impressed. The bathroom, with real marble tile, a beautiful shower, and the provided soaps and lotions were amazing. We loved the Heron theme, down to the clothes closet with heron print, heron robe to use and even heron drink coasters. Rooftop bar is a MUST, we had cocktails there with a great view of the city. Ate breakfast in the Kiln, was awesome, with good sized portion, lots of bacon and really good sour dough toast. Free coffee in the lobby and very nice staff. It is a nice short walk to the restaurants and water front, Old Town is great to visit. We look forward to returning to the heron!!

Would definitely stay there again

Ask for Andrew at the Kiln bar-he mixes up a mean espresso martini. Reception people are great. Avoid room 226, as its bathroom window faces a VERY loud industrial AC unit (although it is nicely camouflaged with foliage). That was our only minor negative mark in our overwhelmingly positive stay. Book it.

Hotel Heron is situated in a walkable part of Old Town Alexandria. The room and bathroom were nice and comfortable. The housekeepers were lovely people who did a nice job. But….the rooftop bar was OFF. The cocktails were incorrect, the “fancy grilled cheese” was soft mini buns with pickles and cheese ( NOT grilled). Weird. The woman at check in insisted that the amenities fee was $137 PER DAY. I was tired from traveling and said I have written confirmation to the contrary but she was adamant. At the very least, she was a TERRIBLE communicator. At check out (different lady), the invoice was correct just like the written confirmation. Was an aggravating check in experience. The in room movie rental (my 8 year old wanted to watch something) was $22, yikes. He watched it for about 20 minutes. We learned the “amenities” were very expensive. The Lobby area was comfortable, the morning coffee set up was fine.
