The room was nice, but the TV didn’t work well. The sound kept cutting off frequently for a few seconds. Engineers replaced the TV, but the issue continued. There were only 41 or so channels and they didn’t all work. They could use new TVs. I wanted to connect my Xbox into the hdmi but for some reason the TV default volume was set to 100 if you used your own device which was insanely loud and you could not adjust it. Besides that the room was nice, clean, and the bar downstairs was also very scenic. However one of the main reasons I chose this hotel was hoping the TV would work well.

It was a shared room with three roommates. We all got along fine. The front desk staff, Tina and Audrey were wonderful and actually remembered my name. They made my stay wonderful! Also, the maid that cleaned our room had the opportunity to take my watch that I’m mistakenly left on the tub. Very honest and kind. Nothing but good to share her about my experience here.

Tried staying in one of those bunk bed, 4 random people room. Such a weird experience. I was assigned bed number 2. Came into the room, my bed was occupied, and I asked quietly: anyone here? This girl was staying in my bed, and apologized, asked if I can take her bed number 4. I said ok, was very tired from traveling. Quietly went to bed, closed my curtain. At midnight this other random guy came in, and occupied bed number 3, above me. He fell asleep instantly and started snoring and farting non stop. I took my stuff and left at 4 am. Asked for single room. It was so disgusting. Another thing, both days they didn’t have hot water, it just ran for 30 seconds and then cold water for 2 hours…

We definitely enjoyed our stay. It's a very walkable area. The morning baristas were very kind and great coffee or breakfast made right in your hotel lobby. That's a bonus in my book! We would book again.

Very clean rooms and staff at front desk especially Tina are very helpful in accommodations and making your stay feel like home. I will make Generator Washington my first choice every time i visit DC and recommend for anyone who is going to visit DC.

So, while I have stayed at the Generator several times every time I visited D.C. over the past year - this past visit was particularly problematic… for one, I was a victim of theft while staying in a shared room with three other people, although I have never experienced this type of theft before, I had reason to believe who stole my wallet and the police were even called however I found the hotel management not to be too helpful in helping identify the thief despite the circumstantial evidence, they just seemed to be to concerned about protecting the rights of the criminal than aiding the victim to justice. I will say that one of the manager ladies was sympathetic to my suffering, I found that most of the top management in general did not want to do what was in their power to help solve this crime… to clarify, my wallet was not left in plain sight, my rights to privacy were violated as the thief went through my belongings however some of the staff decided to lecture me about the privacy of the suspected thief. Hope this never happens to any one who risks a stay at a hostel, remember that you may experience a particularly hostile atmosphere from some of the staff, especially if you find yourself in such a situation. Although I will say that the lady at the cafe was nice, offering me free breakfast given that I was missing all my cash and credit cards. Overall, I will stay away from hostels… too much risk, not worth it.
