We stayed in the “penthouse” room, which is a huge room with a king and queen bed, plus a small kitchenette and private bath. We were there for business and a little family getaway with my wife and 11yr old son. We all loved the room. We all love the Tabard in general, the eccentricity of the whole place: the art, the general vibe, the FOOD!
Great central location and lovely character-ful hotel with great staff. The suite is on the top floor of a narrow stairwell so if you go for it make sure your guests are mobile.
The hotel is so cute. The trade off is that the room has poor soundproofing and the neighborhood is quite loud at night. We were up late so not a problem for us. The only minus was the queen bed which was uncomfortable and is on a very creaky frame so every toss and turn is audible.
Would still recommend as it is a really beautiful experience but some of the little tradeoffs might bother some folks.
I really liked the historic features of the property and the old-fashioned furniture. Even a claw foot tub, updated with a very nice shower! I was a little surprised at no tv, but since I don’t watch tv it was no loss—there is internet.
The location and convenience of the Metro is key. Thank you.
The staff were so friendly; very attentive to guests! Everything was lovely. Food was delicious. This is a very unique hotel. If you stay here, just be ready for some windy halls and stairs. We will definitely come back again!
A very special place - historical charm in the structure and surrounds, meaningfully appointed throughout with interesting and sophisticated artwork, made my partner feel special on his birthday... A very good restaurant with equally enjoyable surroundings. A most unique and special place to stay. I can't imagine coming back to D.C. and not staying at Tabard Inn!
We checked in Friday night & were told we would be charged $100 cleaning fee upon being handed keys (was not told this when I purchased the stay). The front desk person seemed irritated having to check us into the suite - we also found out upon check in that the suite was only accessible by walking through the entire restaurant. They offered to walk us to the room & seemed annoyed that we took them up on the offer to help with luggage. We had no clue our room would be serviced & for a suite, it came with minimal amenities (they have a working kitchen but no plates or cutlery). No ice bucket to get ice & only a small refillable jug of water. When showering, you are forced to look at yourself at a full length mirror. 😂
Otherwise, centrally located to world pride festivities & a nice neighborhood makes it a little better. Brunch was excellent so only go there to eat, imho

Quaint and with Old World charm. The towels were delightfully soft, but the room is in need of a refurbish.
