We were supposed to stay at Rydes Wellington and had booked two nights. The booking was done through Expedia and I had reached out to the hotel by text because the weather was terrible and suggested that we would stay back. I didn’t get a text message back from the hotel. We had to get a hotel in Lake Taupo because of 80 mile an hour winds. The electricity was impacted for at least 10,000 people in Wellington. It just was dangerous for us to travel to Wellington the first day of the reservation. The next day we drove to Wellington for the second day of our reservation. We came down to the Rydges hotel and wanted to stay for the other night of our reservation and we were told that they didn’t have a room for us.We had to pay for both nights at the hotel and not stay there either night. Then we had to find another hotel to stay in the second night in Wellington and we were there on time around 4 PM. Expedia was not helpful nor the hotel in recovering our money from the hotel that did not provide any service to us.

The room was very clean and the staff very courteous, but when we arrived, the curtains were open to the west facing window and it was blistering hot. It took several hours for the room to cool making it hard to fall asleep as we arrived in the evening.

While the room was otherwise fine, the shower head was broken and only pointed toward the wall. The heat pump was also right next to the bed and quite noisy, which affected sleep.

Rydges Wellington is walking distance from the train station, Bee Hive Capital, the waterfront and many restaurants and shopping outlets. The room was very clean and their bar and restaurant excellent. We will stay here again.

We had a problem one night with the plumbing which made a terrible noise in the pipes and kept us awake all night. As a result we were exhausted the next day. The staff asked us to pack in case they needed to move us but we ended up staying in our room as it was fixed the next day.

The bed was very comfortable and the staff were great but the room was so loud! The air con rattled away in the corner all night and we could hear road noise and sirens even from the 15th floor. Parking was convenient but expensive at $45/night and couldn’t be booked in advance.
