Very nice room, good size and comfortable, large, clean ensuite with nice toiletries. We should have had a £10 drinks credit but were not told about this on check in - only remembered when we got home, when it was too late - would have been good to have this pointed out when we arrived as we would have enjoyed a drink at the bar. We would have liked to use the spa facilities but they closed at 7pm (Sunday) which unfortunately didn't give us enough time to use them due to our plans in Winchester - not sure why they closed so early, but this was one of the reasons we booked the hotel, so this was disappointing. Fairly easy to walk into Winchester, so location was good for us.

The room was nice if somewhat dark - dark wallpaper and dark furniture. The bathroom had a big shower but signs of mould in places. Sadly the shower didn’t work brilliantly, changing pressure and temperature. The spa was great had a fabulous massage.

Spa area was amazing, very relaxing experience and friendly staff. It felt very luxury being in the spa area and pool and jacuzzi also luxurious. Bathroom could do with some general maintenance i.e. shelf fittings loose and shower head leaking. Shower also did not have any symbols for hot/cold or on/off so took time to figure out how to have the right temperature. Pillows also too soft to sleep on causing neck pain. Internet also very poor in the room.

I definitely wouldn’t rate this as a 4 star hotel. The toilet hadn’t been clean which is a pretty basic, and no full length mirror in the bedroom, again a basic facility which should be there. I didn’t eat breakfast so can’t comment on food.

Anniversary pre cruise break

Really enjoyed our 2 night stay to celebrate our silver anniversary. Nicely decorated room although very dark and warm. Asked for a fan and it was brought immediately. Thank you to all the lovely staff and for our anniversary gift. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. Great area with lots of nearby restaurants and an easy walk in to the beautiful main high street.

A poor stay

The room itself was a good size however wallpaper was coming off the wall in several paces. The carpet at the threshold was threadbare. The plug socket above the dressing table was loose and coming off the wall. Water systems very noisy from other rooms & Finally the skirting board had been kicked in below the air con.

At checkout, the man on reception didn't even bother to ask us if we had enjoyed our two night stay, which I think sums up the hotel's attitude which seemed pretty nonchalant and uncaring towards its guests. On the first night of our stay, a wedding reception was taking place at the hotel. We have stayed in many hotels where weddings are taking place and hotels always, in my experience, try to put non-wedding guests, like us, in a quiet part of the hotel, especially when they have booked weeks in advance, as we did. Not here, we were on the first floor, and the noise from the music was enough to stop us sleeping after a long and tiring week. The music stopped at midnight, so it wasn't too late, but nevertheless we paid good money for our room and expected it to be a good deal quieter than it was. It is a large hotel, on three floors, surely there was somewhere quieter for non-wedding guests? This isn't a moan at the wedding people I stress, it is their big day and they can enjoy themselves however they want. Everything else about the hotel was average at best. The breakfast was adequate, no better. The room was OK. The car park was a challenge. Most of the staff, apart from the man on reception at checkout, were OK. I won't be staying there again.
