Smelly toilet with terrible hotel staffs.
Was not greeted nicely upon check-in and check-outs ; when i ask the service manager for shopping guides & things to do nearby, he replied with "I don't know". Even after i suggested him to BAIDU (google) about such, he remained nonchalent

They do not have bilingual staff and I could not find anyone who spoke English. It was very frustrating at check in. I had a hard time looking for the Hotel to begin with. Luckily some locals helped me with their GPS. Even when i was in front of the hotel I was looking for the hotel name in English but nothing until some locals helped me out again. My only way of communicating with the staff was via the translation apps. There was no safety box in the room nor the lobby. No laundry service. I took a walk to another hotel to look for English speaking staff to help me book the Terracotta warrior trip. The front desk staff did their best to communicate and I am very grateful for all their efforts. On my second night when I came back from my trotting, the room was well serviced except there was no toilet paper. the 7/11 shop was just nearby so i had to buy my own. It was too embarassing to ask.

First off, the hotel address is not accurate. It is very important to find the right address BEFORE arriving there. It took me about 25 min to figure it out at 1 am when my wife and I arrived in Xi'an. The hotel is ok if you just need a place to crash.

Good location
Looks good exterior but poor in interior! Main light and table lamp out of order. Bathroom forever wet and the toilet doesn't flush properly unless you know how. Tower etc seem to be not dried properly! The main problem is that the chinese name of the hotel is not shown which will end up no body will find it.

The Canaan has had a makeover recently.New Lobby and rooms refurbished. I always stay at this hotel when In Xi'an this has been my 6th stay so I have seen the hotel improvements.

Great location, nice room, hard to find, hard bed
Firstly this hotel is difficult to find and difficult for taxi drivers too, this is because they tell you it's on the Main Street but actually it's situated on the road behind it. Our taxi driver had to get someone on the street to ring the hotel to find out where it is, The location is great, within walking distance of drum and bell towers and the train station. We were pleased with our room. The bathroom was nice, there was a seperate living room and the bedroom was nice, there were some problems with the plugs not working in the room though. The bed is so hard, it's like sleeping on wood. This is normal in China, but was by far the hardest bed out of the three hotels we stayed in. Staff are helpful, all of the information claims they speak perfect English, this isn't true, but with a bit if patience they will help you.

Disappointing hotel
Room and bedding smelt of cigarette smoke, We were unable to sleep as the bed was so hard you could have been sleeping on the floor. Our Son who speaks Chinese asked if we could change rooms as we had requested a non smoking room but was told that they don't have specific non smoking rooms and were unable to move us. Not the best location for the Muslin Quarter and city centre.

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. the staff were helpful although their English was quite limited. Didn't manage to find the coffee bar which was supposed to be in the lobby. The views from the room were disappointing at best. There was no safe in the room and when we asked about a safety deposit box the staff had no idea what we wanted.

Good cheap, clean hotel in Xi'an.
We took the airport shuttle to the drum tower from the airport, and we had trouble catching a cab, although several folks offered to take us to the hotel for an exorbitant price. Once we found someone, they drove us straight to the hotel (behind the former Hyatt Regency--now changed names). Most of the staff spoke little or no English, but Jilly was great--she showed us our room (which she had upgraded). King size, but typical Chinese bed (hard). Hotel is on bus lines, so easy to get around. Lots of restaurants and stores in the vicinity if you are OK with not speaking Chinese. We did not eat in the restaurant at the hotel. We took a tour of the Terra Cotta warriors as suggested by Jilly, which was great.Don't forget to tip your tour guide!

Good location, terrible staff, AWFUL BATHROOM
We had a great impression when arriving at this hotel and the front desk girl spoke almost perfect English and walked us to the room, provided us with some information about the city but sadly we never got to see her again, nobody spoke English and neither dare to pick up the phone after seeing the room # calling and knowing you spoke English, very irritating and had me a few times coming downstairs to ask to speak to someone who could understand me, sometimes they called people out of the hotel to translate. Location is pretty good, walking distance from markets and lots of stores, restaurants, busy area, Drum and bell tower, city wall, very convenient. Room seemed pretty good at first, but shower didn't work and we had to get it changed a couple of times, Toilet plugged up terribly at the same with the sink and it was happening all the time! worst thing, nobody wanted to pick up the phone or understood our problems, until I yelled that I needed someone who speaks English, finally they figured it out and got someone to phone me, they sent a lady (yes, she didn't speak English either but at least got that the issue was the shower) then they sent a guy to exchange it. Internet didn't work. This place would be ok only if you're patient and ready to deal with bathroom issues and people not understanding that something is happening to you. Be prepared because if you have problems nobody knows what the heck you are saying. Good Luck!

Overall, the location and service was good. Jilly and Joy were very helpful. The counter staff, cleaning staff and security did their best to assist me. The only issue I had was withthe toilet. At times it did not flush well. I will be back to Xi'an.

Big Rooms in a good location.
Old kind of Hotel with big rooms, need a good maintance-shower heads,sinks. Only a very few Front Desk staff can speak English(or understand). Close to public Transit. Breakfast is 15Y and Chinese orientd will be gone very early. English B'fast cost more money and takes time.

Caanan International Hotel- best service!
The Caanan International Hotel is the place in Xi'an you want to be at when something goes wrong. The standard of the hotel is definetly very so-so, but the service in reception is outstanding! They went out of their way to help us when we had trouble booking trips during the Chinese National Holidays, spending hours to find a way for us to get back to Beijing so that we could reach our flights home on time. The level of english is also one of the best we have met in China, perfect. They also seemed very keen on their guests to really see and experience Xi'an.

the staffing at the hotel i could not complain about, 10/10. manageress Jilly came to my room 10 minutes after check in to welcome me, and also booked me a private driver to take me to visit the terracotta army, again 10/10! but the room itself was just not acceptable, the walls were covered with years of smokers in the room, windows were very thin and traffic and shouting could be heard non stop, there was used cigarette butts on the floor along with a dead ladybid, wasnt sure if to pull the curtains closed incase something like a spider fell off!

The hotel in Xian , Canaan is a very good hotel
This is a very good hotel, it is located in the inner walls of the ancient city of Xian. There are 2 managers, and ther are there to help foriegners. They give you a map of the city, and a set of instructions on how to take the bus to get to locations, if you choose not to walk. Most things are within walking distance of the hotel. Menues in the hotel are in English as well as in Chinese. If you are going to do any tours, do it through the hotel. Just talk to any of the 2 mangers, they will help you with anything. Over all, Canaan International Hotel is a very good hotel.
