Historic Charleston Gem
The Hampton Inn in historic Charleston is an excellent choice for those who want to stay near all the attractions and shopping. The hotel is directly across from the free DASH shuttle and breakfast is served every day!

The location of the property is good. Walk across the street to free shuttle. Front desk staff was friendly and accommodating. The condition of the hotel is a little dated, but beds are comfortable and the shower is hot.

Needs some TLC
Bathroom needed update . No exhaust fan and poor lighting. The grout showed signs of needing to be replaced.Bedroom carpet needed to be cleaned too.

Heat/air was non-existent - staff tried but the bottom line is Hampton needs to designate some big funds to that place and every room should have a new HVAC unit put in!! We were so hot most of the time, stuffy, room smelled like dirty socks. Beds were broken down around the edges so if you laid too close to the edge you’d start to slide out. Someone must have thrown up somewhere in the hall by the main floor elevators - could get a whiff of that as you passed by. We didn’t have hot water yesterday afternoon and we’d come back expecting to take showers - nothing!! It was back on last night when we got home from dinner but it was all brown and rusty colored. My husband ran it for a bit and it cleared up but didn’t inspire confidence to brush our teeth in it. We will never return there!!! We’ve stayed at Hampton Inns before but this??? No thank you! we understand it’s historical but that shouldn’t be synonymous with run down, inefficient, and lacking quality. Ugh!!!

A last minute travel decision meant we book what’s available. I mean it should be ok, part of the Hilton portfolio…Upon arrival we were given a room that had an overwhelming odor of a dog in need of a bath and a window with the view of a truck tailgate. Yes, the truck was literally backed into a parking space that was within a few feet of the window. The concern of a vehicle crashing into our room had now far exceeded that disgusting smell. Evidently Guest safety is not a priority. We gathered our belongings, returned to the lobby and requested to be moved. The Lobby had become congested and was overrun with several Dogs. We love Dogs, however we found ourselves and others being growled at. Our move to another room had now infringed upon our time to experience Charleston and we did a quick drop. We returned that evening to a room temperature of 78 degrees and at no point during our stay did the air work. This complaint was heard from other Guest and it seems there is an ongoing problem with the air system. The fun, beauty and charm of Charleston far surpassed our unsettling experience of this Hotel. We will go back, however we will NOT ever stay at this Hotel again.

superb location and hotel
The staff were wonderful, the hotel is a gem in the historic district, rooms and amenities comparable to Inns costing hundreds more per night, great coffees all day, excellent concierge, parking with handicapped sticker is free ; I came solo last week and enjoyed it so much booked 2 more nights en rte home to Asheville NC.

Great place to stay. HVAC seems to be showing age
Love the location. Friendly staff. Bed was comfortable. Only problem is that the HVAC system needed maintenance as it would not warm the room (61 degrees) when we first arrived. The maintenance man was prompt and in a few minutes fixed the problem. However, it seems the system is old as it took much longer than usual for the system to reach minor setting changes. Yet, we'll be back.
