Room with a View

Staying at Ragged Point is all about the ocean view. The rooms are comfortable and generally pleasing. Not all rooms have an ocean view, but most do. The grounds are also very pleasing and well maintained. The downsides are lack of cell service, sometimes spotty wifi, and nearby food options limited to Ragged Point restaurant or coffee shop. Other restaurants are 15 miles to San Simeon, or 24 miles to Cambria.

This is a lovely, quaint facility on the edge of the cliffs. Beautiful views! From the information and photos I saw online, I thought the motel was actually down on the beach, but it is up at the top of a cliff with a very steep staircase down to the water. The room was simple and clean. I did not have phone, text, or email access while on-site. The motel was aware of that. I wish I had known that BEFORE driving to the hotel, because by the time I had arrived, it was too late to communicate to my family that I would be out of touch overnight. We had dinner at the restaurant, which people online were raving about. The menu offerings were varied. I ordered ribeye, which was over $60. It was just OK. Definitely too expensive. I wish I had ordered the salmon salad instead. We had originally planned to drive north into Big Sur, but the 1 was closed slightly north of the motel, so we had to backtrack down to Cambria and drive east from there. Unfortunate for the motel to have this logistical inconvenience.

Generally speaking, I am always a fan of Ragged Point Inn. It’s a comfortable lodge in a great location. I have been staying there somewhat regularly for over a decade. With that being said, their staff is heavily lacking. Additionally, it’s about time they get better WiFi.

We upgraded to oceanfront. It’s so beautiful & the grounds are gorgeous. The resturant is amazing . We ate supper & breakfast there. It’s our 3rd time staying there. It was our 55th anniversary. Will stay again.

Expedia said my credit card had an issue and could not book the room for me. Ragged Point later called me personally to see if i was still interested in the room. I asked about. My credit card issues and they replied "not a problem ". I let them know i had made other plans, " no problem we are completely booked but had one opening available ". Wish i could have stayed there...oh well , maybe next trip.

Beautiful location at the southern end of Big Sur. Spectacular views, nice restaurant and wonderful peaceful nights. Dark and quiet. Very scrollable. Great place to "recharge your batteries." Highly recommended.

Ocean view was nice and comfy bed. Overall place is a little dated but could be due to Hwy 1 closure for past couple years. Not a lot around but can take nice walks and enjoy nature.

Chose the place to see the views. 1st night was foggy but glad that on our last day it cleared out a bit. The guy from check in gave us informational great spots. Salmon Creek trail was nice!
