It was a comfortable stay, but not quiet in the evening. People on the street were loud at night. Temperature was adequate in the room. My child was put off by the smell in the elevator and in the hallway. I got a faint hint of cigarette smoke and BO in the elevator, but that could have been someone who had used the elevator before us. It was comfortable and good value for a 1 night stay. Some decent restaurants in the neighborhood. Less homeless people in this area vs. Gastown area. That was a plus. A fantastic savory pie place, Peaked Pies around the corner from hotel.

Great location, but that’d be the best thing about this BW. Staff were friendly and helpful too. Room was smaller than expected, moderately comfortable with decent facilities. Comparative to other BW’s it’s not as good value - expensive parking (and if it’s busy good luck), no breakfast included, could definitely do with updating, one lift was broken for 2 of our 3 days/nights there, the bar downstairs can be rowdy. But, the location is excellent (which is why we chose it) with English Bay across the road, close to Stanley Park, shopping and many restaurants.

My family had an one-night stay at Best Western Plus Sands on New Year's Eve. The hotel has its own parking lot, parking fee extra, which seems the standard practice in Vancouver. Friendly staff. The 2-bed room was clean, and large enough for a group of 3 or 4. My room had a little bit view of the bay water. But mostly just the buildings across the street. Not sure if it was because of the New Year's Eve or what, there was sound of loud live music from outside. Also people talking loud on the street. The sound went into very late in the night. My earplugs did not help. The windows of the room seemed to be very old. Single-pane windows, with metal frame, with no insulation mechanism. The baseboard heater was on. But I still felt with my hands that the cold air went into the room from the edge of the curtain. Luckily the temperature of the room kept stable over the night.
