The English Bay Hotel is located in a great location, a minute's walk from English Bay, close to lots of restaurants, and on two bus routes -- 6 Davie and 5 Downtown, which takes you right to the art gallery. Both connect with the Skytrain.
The building appears to have been built in the 1950s and it is showing its age. Although the suites are fairly spacious, and include a kitchen, some of the amenities need an update -- the shower tap was very hard to control temperature, and there were not enough electrical outlets and those that existed often wouldn't hold the connection with appliances as the plugs were loose.
There is a gated parking garage (extra $$) and on my trip in February, I had no trouble getting a space. Unfortunately, you have to climb a steep concrete stairway to get to the lobby, where you can catch a slow elevator.
Given that many Vancouver hotels have risen in price exponentially, this was a slightly less expensive option. I recommend it for the location and for those trying to control their costs.
