I was very disappointed with our stay. We were given a room beside the kitchen gallery that was very noisy in the morning - the room details were not transparent. Our hot water for showers wasn’t working and when we alerted staff, it took hours to fix, reference was made to “we booked on expedia” which had no relevance to the situation, and we had to waste a whole day waiting for the “manager” to fix the issue who proceeded to leave a mess in our bathroom that we had to clean. This property is not quiet as advertised, and when we moved furniture, it was clear cleaning is very surface and what you can see - what you can’t see was not clean, the service was poor and we won’t be staying at this property again. We needed to check out one day early after a 7-day stay and the property refused crediting us for one night despite the inconvenience with our room. This was a very disappointing experience. It appears “charming” but is not!

My stay was fine. But surprised the lady at check in was wearing bike shorts .. the water in the shower only got mildly warm. And the heating system was loud. Might just be where my room was but difficult to sleep and hear everyone walking above . But that is to be expected in an older building. Also you may have to park a long way away and walk as no onsite parking!
Charming guest house. Loved everything about it. Definitely not a hotel and that’s what’s so great. It’s like visiting your aunt. Breakfast is great. Love the lounge areas and all the supplies- including he fridge - so everyone can have their own ex.
This is my fourth time staying at the Craigmyle. While I think it's great, standards have started to slip. I had a room with a kitchenette, and there was leftover food and garbage from the previous guest. Also under the bed hadn't been mopped, so it was extremely dusty. I stayed for 5 days, and it would have been nice if they'd come to collect garbage or towels. They seem understaffed, although the staff I did speak to are very nice.
The building and area are wonderful examples of early Victoria architecture. Lovely neighbourhood close to hospital, which was important to me while my husband was having surgery. I enjoyed my daily walks to and from the hospital. I was able to make small shopping forays at the drug store, market, gas station and even a consignment store enroute. I did not visit any restaurants but was able to find healthy food choices at the above-mentioned places.
Quiet and homey with excellent self serve facilities (available glassware, linens, laundry, lovely common area). Lots of stairs, so be fit. Our room was comfortable though basic: small shower and no TV or in-room fridge. Perfect for our needs and tastes, but be sure you know what to expect.
