Location and historical hotel facility - SUPER! But we were surprised that even with our upgraded room we did not have mini bar available in the room When we arrived, it was not even simple water available :-( Also, we did not expect that in such highly rated and expensive hotel the restaurant menu was very poor... Have to be upgraded in the future...

The only reason for the poor rating is there is no sound proofing here and we had a terrible sleep. You can hear everyone walking down the hallway and their conversations at all and every noise from outside all night even people talking for a hotel of this calibre they should invest more in soundproofing.

We are somewhat local as we live in Greater Victoria. We have never stayed at the Fairmont Empress before, even prior to moving to the island. So for my wife's big birthday, I decided to treat her to a stay-cation with a night at the Empress and dinner nearby. Lovely staff, great location, easily walkable to all downtown amenities we wanted. Kids loved the pool and the room was spacious and clean, with very tall ceilings.

The property is iconic and has breathtaking gardens. We arrived from the ferry and had to wait 5 hours for our room. My husband needs a cane & we were directed to our room thru a maze when a much closer way was available. Our coffee machine didn’t work & tv had difficult accessibility.
