I've stayed here before. This time, pile of cigarette butts on the front stoop. Strange odor. From entry was full of shoes and crap. And the upstairs neighbors were thumping around at 6:30 am and all day, in evening. I couldn't bear to spend another night so I checked into a downtown hotel instead. I'll never be back.

I'm pretty sure this place represents itself as a 4- or 5-star property, but it felt tired and a little worn (like an older ski resort). The grounds of the property were excellent, and the pool would have been nice to use, but was completely full in the evening. We had a reservation, but had no idea if that mattered? The little cafe where we got our coffee (which was good) served us the most inedible oatmeal we've had in years.

We didn’t actually stay at this property. We made a reservation for this place on February 1st and the reservation was accepted and booked. Five months later with less than 18 hours before check in we were told that we were being moved and that it was an “upgrade”. We were moved from a 3 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom walk up apartment, hardly what could be considered an upgrade. We were told it was a mistake as they do not accept a one night reservation for that property. The place we were moved to (512 W 5th ave, Anchorage, Birch Haven) was ok but it was not of our choosing, we would never have chosen a walk up for that night when we had to bring all our luggage in to repack for departure the next day. We were offered a full refund but we had no time to do that given our plans and day of travel without internet service. We were stuck. The place was clean enough but even though inside smoking is prohibited it still smelled of cigarette smoke. My wife experienced immediate upper airway congestion, cough and headache due to the smell of this residual cigarette smoke making it difficult/ challenging to sleep and necessitating the use of her asthma inhaler. This was not a good experience. Why were we not notified in Feb of the restriction to this property so other arrangements could be made?

Wonderful stay, the room was clean and the bed was big and comfortable. Delicious breakfast and friendly host. I definitely recommend Highland Glen, Plenty of places to relax and even a hot tub. Loved our stay

Okay but way over priced for this older facility. Even if the pool was not closed we would not go in. Didn't stay for breakfast, or used parking and chose for its shuttle and proximity to the train station

Very convenient for being right next to the airport and a good place if your time in Alaska is short. The surrounding area is quiet but wish there were more things around that’s walkable distance for those who don’t have car rentals
