Elgin Vacation Packages

This is an older motel in an urban neighborhood on the Chicago-Niles border. The surrounding neighborhood is safe (I used to live in Chicago). Lots of shopping (Walmart, Target, etc) nearby. It could be cleaner--one of the sheets had a cigarette burn hole in it. Staff was courteous and responsive. When I walked into the room and smelled pot smoke, they provided an air freshener that was effective without being overpowering. (They offered to transfer me to another room but I couldn't climb the stairs.) I discovered at midnight that there was no outlet near my bed for my CPAP, but to my pleasant surprise, someone was at the office desk even that late and was able to provide me with an extension cord. There were two incidents of noise from other guests but overall it was pretty quiet. You get what you pay for with this (with Chicago hotel rates overall being overinflated). It's pretty no-frills, and it's not exactly a relaxing place, but the staff responsiveness kept things from being 2 or 3 star experience.

The hotel is in a great area but the hotel itself was okay. Employees were nice and there are two nice bars in the hotel. My main issue is it did not get cold in my room even though I had the thermostat on the coldest setting. Also a bummer that there’s no pool.

The room was clean but small. No refrigerator or glasses/cups in the room. Daily room refresh wasn’t done either. A nice stay overall with a pleasant and helpful staff. I would stay again but look for an upgraded room. Even being the 9th floor, there was a lot of street noise.

Front desk agents gave me a bit of attitude upon arrival and I caught one woman give me a full up and down look. The person who was to take my bags upstairs with me only took the bag I had in my hand and not my luggage. He also did not hold the door open for me. That’s two ticks on the overall first impression. I then went back down to the front desk to ask for an additional key envelope so I could give it to the other desk. The same one who gave me the stare up and down slid one on the counter. Rude. I had to ask her for a pen, which she took her sweet time getting out of her pocket when there were several right in front of her that I could see behind the desk from where I was standing. The elevators take forever and the agent downstairs kept/threw away my Uber Eats order. I ordered late in the night and fell asleep (which is totally my fault, order was delayed), but when I called the next morning they acted like they had no idea what I was talking about. I was only calling to ask why they didn’t phone the room because I had no messages waiting when I awoke. They proceeded to tell me that never happened. Meanwhile, I had a photo provided on the Uber app for drop off in the lobby, at the front desk… Great location, clean and beautiful. The people could improve. I expect stellar service at a Kimpton. This was short of that.
