The rooms in the basement are definitely not a 4 star experience. Although clean, this is more a 2 star hotel. During our stay the carpet was also wet and there were a few dehumidifiers running continuously.

This is a lovely, old barony house. It is not a pristine chain hotel. Give yourself plenty of time to roam the house and grounds. This place is breathtaking! Staff was mostly helpful, though we requested a whisky tasting, were told they'd inquire and let us know, but never did (we assumed that meant no). Dinner service was very slow the evening we were there, with very few other people. Bar drinks had to be requested more than once before they arrived. Wait staff was not very attentive. Food and drink for dinner and the included breakfast were delicious. The sea bass was out of this world and the sticky toffee pudding was perfection! This was a luxury stay with a lovely, comfortable bed and nicely appointed, basic room. A lovely last night in Scotland before we had to return home.

Great location, the hallway had an odd smell to it. Overall the room was good though.

We enjoyed our stay until nightfall when the music started in the club next door. We were told we received an upgrade and were thrilled until reading the fine print on the room intro letter. No one mentioned verbally that there would be pounding music outside our window. We read it on the letter where the note suggested requesting ear plugs from the front desk. Music started early and continued until well after midnight with a throbbing bass carried right up to our windows. The room was clean, comfortable and well appointed if you were not planning on a solid night's sleep.

Very clean and central to everything. Bus and train less than 10 minute walk. No elevator which was mentioned in listing. Good communication prior to check in.
