The room was nice, but the bed had no comforters and needed more pillows. The 3 elevators are not enough for the upper floors of the building, you always had to wait, and sometimes only 2 elevators worked for so many people staying.

Hotel Riu is a very large hotel with over 30 floors. It is busy and impersonal, like a large conference centre or train station sort of way. Take the "5-star" rating with a grain of salt. The decor and facilities are adequate but very dated. The breakfast is plentiful and hearty, but the dining area is crowded with straight rows upon rows of tables like a food hall. Overall the food and drinks are average. The location is central to the financial district but is busy with lots of car traffic and lacking continuous sidewalks for pedestrians. The hotel does not offer amenities expected of a 5 star hotel - no conditioner for the shower, no umbrella in the room or lobby, WiFi limited to a few devices, no late checkout citing a fully booked hotel (even though their website showed availability of rooms), a single hand towel and face towel for 2 occupants, temperature control with an old dial rather than digital controls, a very small TV, etc. So overall, this hotel is fine for a short stay, but falls short for a getaway destination.

I wasn’t so impressed that they only catered for Spanish speaking people only especially in the lobby. My husband was watching the game and the manager came and switched it to soccer without asking him if he was watching it. Entertainment was only Spanish speakers as well.
