Room and building was very outdated, horrible smell. Looked more like a hangout spot that motel. Do not recommend

South Shire is a quaint Victorian Inn on Elm Street within walking distance to the center of Bennington, VT. The Inn has a family feel and elegance. We traveled as a couple. It was easy to get to sites and enjoy fine restaurants. The Inn is in keeping with the feel of strength of the Bennington community, as a place for artists, musicians, and people's expression generally to thrive. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend South Shire.

The cabin and grounds are well-maintained. The pool was crystal clear and the slide was a nice addition. Gorgeous views!

My grandfather was a Bauhaus trained architect, so I love the mid century modern vibe - great memories! Clean, cute, friendly spot, and close to horse show. I’ll come back!

Very nice coffee set up in the morning. Staff was super courteous and helpful. Most of property is updated although carpeting and rugs are tired. Location is great, very convenient to Tanglewood and restaurants. Parking is onsite and more than ample. B

They’ve nicely updated the surface without fixing the problems underneath. So there’s a lovely comfy bed but a terrible smell of mold; a beautifully tiled shower with a floor so slippery my husband fell and almost hit his head on the edge of the built in seat. There’s an infrared light in the bath but it doesn’t work and there’s no fan; a microwave but the cups are plastic, a coffeemaker with no instructions, and a receptionist who doesn’t do eye contact.

It was a nice room with a beautiful location, and the pools were well maintained. However, the front desk was repeatedly grumpy whenever we had a question. Even saying good morning was met with an indifferent tone. For example, the washer didn't work (rinse cycle didn't work) and when I reported it in order to help the next person who would use it, they didn't seem interested and were put off. Additionally, the keys consistently didn't work until after several times, and whenever we tried to call the front desk for fresh towels the line would disconnect. The arcade also didn't work since the tickets wouldn't print after depositing money.
